Who We Are

Breakaway is the nation’s leading independent live music and entertainment platform, operating as a dynamic flywheel spanning live music, artist services, event management and operations, and digital media. Its tentpole touring music festivals deliver premium experiences to underserved music fans across the country. Since its inception, the festival has expanded into multiple cities and grown into a two-day, multi-stage event in every market. The brand champions accessibility, music, art, creativity, and community. Breakaway also creates cultural moments through “Breakaway Presents,” a series of pop-up events in markets such as Miami and Las Vegas. The company remains dedicated to discovering and amplifying the “next big thing” in music through its record label and artist-management division, Breakaway Projects.

The Role

Breakaway is seeking a highly motivated Marketing Manager to support the development and execution of marketing campaigns and activations for Breakaway Music Festival and the broader Breakaway brand.

Working cross-functionally with the digital, creative, social, and promotional teams, this individual will help grow the Breakaway brand, drive ticket sales, and engage new and diverse audiences. The role combines campaign strategy, project management, budget oversight, performance reporting, copywriting, agency coordination, and local-market activation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and analytical marketer with a passion for music, festivals, live entertainment, and culture-driven campaigns. The Marketing Manager will help turn fans into customers, customers into ambassadors, and Breakaway into a content platform that drives culture, not simply ticket sales.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of end-to-end marketing plans for Breakaway festivals and the broader Breakaway brand, thoughtfully managing campaigns in close collaboration with internal digital, creative, social, and promotional teams.
  • Oversee significant budgets across multiple concurrent campaigns, making strategic adjustments to optimize spending throughout each phase of the campaign lifecycle.
  • Analyze campaign KPIs, present informed insights during weekly marketing calls, and develop clear action plans based on performance.
  • Maintain marketing calendars and clearly communicate short- and long-term plans across internal teams, ensuring stakeholders remain informed about upcoming initiatives and deadlines.
  • Coordinate local-market initiatives, including digital and out-of-home campaigns, pre-festival events, promotional partnerships, and brand-building activations designed to drive ticket sales.
  • Manage and organize festival media libraries and support pre-festival and onsite media and content-capture strategies.
  • Project-manage creative deliverables, including submitting tickets, assigning tasks, communicating team-wide updates, and managing deadlines.
  • Write copy for non-social marketing channels, including email, SMS, digital advertisements, billboards, and other campaign materials.
  • Oversee fan communications and personalized offers delivered through the Breakaway Festivals app.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Breakaway’s internal marketing team and agency partners across social media, paid media, CRM, and the festival app.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on campaign and event performance, providing actionable insights and recommendations—particularly regarding paid digital advertising and traffic to the Breakaway website.
  • Develop strategic post-festival regional and national fan surveys, analyze audience insights, and translate findings into recommendations for future campaigns.
  • Negotiate rates and creative partnerships with vendors and promotional partners across the marketing mix, including radio stations, media outlets, street teams, content creators, and graphic designers.
  • Stay current on emerging social platforms, cultural trends, and marketing techniques relevant to live entertainment and the festival industry.
  • Support the Marketing Director(s) with administrative, operational, and project-related responsibilities.
  • Support onsite festival operations and marketing activations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; a degree in marketing, English, communications, or a related field is preferred.
  • Two to four years of professional marketing experience, preferably within music, entertainment, media, or live events.
  • Two to four years of professional experience managing paid media campaigns.
  • Two to four years of professional copywriting experience across organic and paid channels.
  • Expertise in paid digital media platforms, including Meta Business Manager and TikTok Business Center, with a strong understanding of KPIs, budget management, and full campaign lifecycles.
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms and their applications in live-event marketing, including audience segmentation, targeting strategies, presale registration journeys, email and SMS campaigns, and audience-retention programs.
  • Exceptional project-management, organizational, and time-management skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance creative and analytical thinking with sound strategic instincts.
  • Strong understanding of the music industry and the Breakaway audience is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, copywriting, and copy-editing skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet overlapping deadlines, and execute quick-turn deliverables.
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a dynamic, rapidly evolving environment.
  • Dependable, proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva is preferred.
  • Experience editing vertical, 9:16, TikTok-style video content is a plus.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, during festival season.
  • A genuine passion for music, festivals, entertainment, and culture-driven marketing.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
