About Odys

Our mission at Odys is simple - we build safe, sustainable aircraft to cut travel time in half on the world's busiest corridors. Our flagship aircraft Alta enables travelers to skip the big-airport hassle by using city helipads and local airports to connect cities less than 1,000 miles apart (approx 40% of flights). And on average cut CO2 by 76% on tens of billions of flight miles globally.

To get there, we start with our UAV called Laila for commercial logistics, medical transport, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and defense missions. We’re deploying aircraft with launch partners (Fiji Airways, Honeywell, Aramex, US Navy) beginning in 2026 and already have firm orders for aircraft under contract.

We’re a team of expert engineers from deep tech and aerospace that focus on fast iterations loops (completed transition flight faster than our peers) combined with mastery of the aircraft certification process. Previously, our team developed custom drones, brought multiple automotive platforms into production, and electrified transportation vehicles that magnetically levitate, that roll, that fly. Together, we’ve been learning, developing, building, testing, and preparing for this challenge our entire lives.

About The Role

Are you passionate about optimizing manufacturing processes and systems that play a crucial role in aircraft functionality? Do you have a knack for finding simple, practical solutions to complex technical challenges? Are you eager to support designs from early concepts through development and see them come to life in real-world hardware?

As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern on the structures team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on the design, manufacturing, quality, integration, and testing of key airframe components. Our team collaborates closely with aerodynamics, propulsion systems, flight test, and flight controls teams to ensure our designs meet aerodynamics, control, and system integration requirements. As an intern Manufacturing Engineer, you will gain hands-on experience in designing the manufacturing processes for a prototype aircraft; generating work instructions, supporting initial production line bring up, and the development of Manufacturing Enterprise Systems.

To succeed in this role, you'll need to be adaptable, a team player, and ready to apply your engineering knowledge to help shape the next generation of aircraft.

Responsibilities

● Generation of work instructions, quality control checks, and manufacturing BOMS

● Hands-on manufacturing, assembly and integration of prototype aircraft

● Creation of 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings using CAD software

● Support the design and fabrication of tooling, fixtures, jigs and shop aids to manufacture aircraft components

● Support the design and fabrication of shop aids and jigs for aircraft assembly and transportation

● Support the development of MES systems

Requirements

● Pursuing a B.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

● Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

● Some experience or coursework related to mechanical design or aerospace

● Familiarity with materials and manufacturing methods

● Basic understanding of CAD software (such as NX or SolidWorks)

● Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others

● Experience working in an MES system is a plus

● Interest in learning about aviation regulations (e.g., SC-VTOL, CS-23, etc.) is a plus

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
