WHAT YOU’LL DO
Teach For America seeks a Managing Director of Recruitment (MDR) to lead, coach, and develop a cohort of Recruitment Managers in pursuit of bold recruitment goals at key campuses across the southeastern United States. This individual will be both a people leader and a strategic planner, accountable for building recruiter capacity, maximizing campus recruitment efforts, and strengthening Teach For America’s presence and impact across the region.
This individual will report to the Senior Managing Director of the Southeast Hub and collaborate with peer Managing Directors across Recruitment and Matriculation to contribute to a vision for impact in the region. They will also directly coach and develop Recruitment Managers in the planning and execution of recruitment campaigns at core Southeast campuses, working to ensure those schools meet application and corps member goals.
Managing Directors of Recruitment are accountable for the strategic and cultural success of their teams. They must be able to produce a vision for the work and how their team will operate, build relationships internally and externally, understand and leverage the opinions of others, and live out our organizational core values. Their leadership will center around developing others. They will invest deeply in the growth of their team, tailoring coaching to each person’s strengths and context to ensure they’re set up to deliver results while also building fulfilling, sustainable careers.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Lead Campus Strategy in the Southeast (25%)

Set strategy and outcomes for a set of high impact schools in the Southeast, working through the team to ensure application and corps member goals are met.

Craft a vision for team leadership, identifying the way the cohort will operate, communicate, and execute in service of our team charge.

Support staff members to build and refine campus plans based on context, history, and data by tailoring strategy to each campus's unique challenges and opportunities and align with local needs and recruitment team priorities.

Support RMs in navigating stakeholder relationships, building new partnerships, and achieving ambitious goals.

Monitor progress to outcomes and lead problem solving when off-track to goal.
Coach and Develop a High Performing Team of Recruiters to Achieve Results (60%)

Serve as the primary coach for a cohort of Recruitment Managers and Recruitment Directors, focusing on long-term leadership development, performance, and personal growth.

Facilitate regular coaching sessions, team meetings, and collaborative spaces that encourage reflection, learning, and growth.

Help team members strengthen their practice across a variety of recruitment skills, including relationship building, storytelling, strategic outreach, event planning, and regional engagement.

Use data and direct observation to offer targeted feedback, identify opportunities, and adapt plans in real time in service with our pursuit of exceptional outcomes.

Track team performance and campaign outcomes, removing barriers and shifting approach where needed to maximize impact.

Identify each team member’s unique strengths, styles, and areas of growth, and co-create individualized development plans.

Model authentic, growth-oriented leadership that fosters trust, transparency, and motivation.
Contribute to Southeast Hub Strategy and Leadership (15%)

Collaborate with the Southeast Hub leadership team and Senior Managing Director of the Southeast Hub to contribute to the planning of hub-wide recruitment strategy.

Participate in regular hub planning and reflection cycles, contributing insights from the field and surfacing trends that inform decision-making.

Stay deeply informed about local educational landscapes, regional happenings, and community needs, using this context to guide strategy and relationships with key stakeholders across the hub and broader organization.

Cultivate a culture and operating principles for engaging with regions and each other that are rooted in belonging, shared purpose, and respect for each individual’s background and lived experience.
A WEEK IN THE LIFE:
As a Managing Director of Recruitment, your week will center on developing and supporting your team of Recruitment Managers (RMs) as they lead high-impact recruitment campaigns across the country. You’ll balance real-time coaching with strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and deep thought partnership.
In any given week, you might:

Meet one-on-one with each of your direct reports to coach on their strategy, campaign performance, and professional growth. You’ll ask reflective questions, give actionable feedback, and co-create plans that build on their strengths.

Drop into a virtual event hosted by one of your RMs to observe their facilitation, offer feedback, and identify opportunities to deepen engagement or storytelling.

Review campaign data alongside your team to identify patterns in prospect engagement, uncover bottlenecks in the application funnel, or spot emerging needs in the field.

Collaborate with Southeast Hub peers to align recruitment strategy with regional matriculation efforts, ensuring a cohesive path from recruitment to the first day in the classroom.

Celebrate wins and share lessons learned with peers across the Recruitment Team or within your hub.
While no two weeks will look exactly the same, your focus will remain steady: coaching your team to lead effective, relationship-driven recruitment efforts, and growing as a leader and learner in the process.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Prior Experience
-
Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively across lines of difference.

Management experience required (may include direct full-time employee management, intern management, and / or effective lateral management).

Experience managing a geographically dispersed team is preferred.

Teach For America recruitment experience is required

Consistent travel will be required (This will vary, but could potentially be 1-2 weeks per month)

Ability to travel independently to multiple locations for work throughout the southeast region

YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.- based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal review, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
