The OCFO team partners with middle market stakeholders to provide strategic finance solutions and operational / technical accounting support across the entire business and investment lifecycle. Leveraging backgrounds in accounting, finance, operations, investment banking, investing and consulting, the OCFO team provides holistic perspectives and capabilities to deliver results that are unmatched in the industry.
The Managing Director (MD), OCFO Controllership Excellence at Portage Point represents a unique opportunity for a highly motivated professional to assume a wide range of responsibilities to make a significant impact in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. This is a business development and client delivery leadership position that will make substantial contributions to overall firm growth. The MD, OCFO Controllership Excellence should be prepared to work within a small, collaborate team environment to manage discrete workstreams.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end client engagements and provide financial advisory services, including controllership operations, procure-to-pay (PTP), order-to-cash (OTC), record-to-report (RTR) processes, audit readiness and preparation, finance function integration or carveout standup, transaction due diligence and technical accounting matters
- Provide strategic and technical compliance guidance with ASC 606, ASC 842 and other complex accounting standards
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships by delivering high-quality, tailored solutions and providing proactive strategic advice
- Provide recommendations to clients on ways to leverage Enterprise Resource Platform (ERP) and close process and consolidation tools to more effectively and rapidly track business performance and improve controls
- Develop and deploy scalable processes, methodologies and analytical solutions which result in step-function improvements to middle market OCFO functions
- Leverage financial expertise and project management skills, including a deep understanding of GAAP accounting principles and S-X regulatory compliance to support clients in navigating diverse financial accounting and reporting considerations related to transactions
- Lead and manage multiple concurrent engagements to provide technical accounting and financial or business advisory guidance to clients (sponsors, lenders and management teams)
- Support and advise clients through complex transactional and operational situations, including mergers, acquisitions and carveouts, operating model transformations, selling / buying the business, technology implementations, etc.
- Build, mentor and lead a high-performing team of finance and analytics professionals
- Develop thought leadership in controllership excellence positioning the firm as a market leader
- Collaborate with leadership to refine service OCFO offerings and go-to-market strategies
- Sell engagements across a network of senior executives, private equity firms, entrepreneurs, lenders and lawyers
- Lead business development efforts while maintaining strong relationships with existing clients
- Share and manage best practices as well as lead internal trainings where required
- Support talent acquisition and firm development efforts
- Contribute to creating a high-performing and inclusive culture
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (CPA, CFA, CA) preferred
- Located in or willing to relocate to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York or Philadelphia
- Invested in a team-based culture that involves in office four days per week and willing to work at client sites as needed
- 15 plus years of progressive experience in financial consulting, advisory services or audit
- Five plus years in a senior leadership role
- Proven track record of achieving business growth, with experience managing revenues of four million annually
- Experience in the role of controllership, finance and accounting advisory services
- Complete proficiency in financial modeling and financial statements analysis as well as accounting treatments
- Proficiency in financial technologies and tools (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, Blackline, Floqast, etc.)
- Bias towards and track record of leveraging technology and automation solutions (Power BI / Tableau, Power Automate, UI Path, Automation Anywhere) to drive business process efficiency
- Strong technical accounting expertise, including experience with ASC 606 and ASC 842
- Ability to successfully work in a small, collaborative team environment
- High degree of maturity with a proven ability to interact with senior executives, private equity sponsors, lenders, lawyers, middle managers and line workers
- Effectively communicates analysis through Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint including high-quality messaging, structure and formatting
- Eagerness to be responsive at all times
- Proven track-record of success in high pressure, time-constrained environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong email etiquette
- Top-tier organizational skills and attention to detail
