Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems sector is seeking an Manager Tool Engineering 2 - Design to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Palmdale, CA, where technology and teamwork come together. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Tooling organization, working collaboratively while promoting a positive and proactive teamwork environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of Tool designers delivering solutions that enable safe, efficient, and repeatable production tooling.
  • Establish and manage roles and responsibilities within Tool design team, recognizing strengths and opportunities in employee competency, while fostering career growth
  • Define and execute the long-term design strategy, aligning priorities across design, manufacturing, and operations to support current and future production goals
  • Oversee design process of complex tooling systems that improve manufacturability, quality, and throughout multiple cost centers.
  • Experience and understanding of engineering processes, including machining, fabrications, assembly, and testing, CAD design, design review process, engineering drawings.
  • Manage the tooling project portfolio, managing cost, schedule, and technical performance to ensure readiness for both production and development programs.
  • Partner with the Tool Engineering and Manufacturing teams to ensure tooling readiness for new and continuous product evolution
  • Standardize best practices for design documentation and configuration control to ensure reliability and compliance across all tooling assets.
  • Determine proper staffing requirements, resource assignments, and sustainment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have bachelor’s degree AND 5 years of related engineering experience in tooling, manufacturing/operations, assembly lines, and/or implementing technology into a production environment OR a Master’s degree AND 3 years of related engineering experience in tooling, manufacturing/operations, assembly lines, and/or implementing technology into a production environment
  • Must have 2 years of leadership or management experience
  • Experience with CAD (e.g. NX, Teamcenter, CATIA, SolidWorks)
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale tooling initiatives for complex hardware (structures, assembles, or propulsion).
  • Knowledge of composite fabrication and tooling, concepts.
  • Must have the ability to obtain DoD secret clearance and Special program access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials, and manufacturing process (machining , composites, weldments, additive).
  • Understanding of Coordination of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers, both internal and external
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders - Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities, Tooling Quality, and Production teams to negotiate requirements, develop proposals, manage requirements deliverables, and ensure compliance with company and state standards
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functions programs, balancing cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Ability to interface/communicate with multiple levels of leadership, customers, and suppliers
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functions programs, balancing cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Experience within the aerospace, automotive, or production related industry and/or with automated systems/machines
  • Experience in the development, capture, and execution of R&D technology capabilities.
  • Experience assessing maturity of new technology for transition to production
  • Experience with authoring proposals, technical documents, and procedures
  • Program management experience and PMP certification
  • Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling assemblies or equipment
  • The ability to demonstrate project management skills and problem-solving skills while supporting multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience or general understanding of the manufacturing processes and technologies
  • Experience with statistical analysis / green belt Six Sigma
  • Certification with using earned value management system (EVMS) for tracking project financials
  • Experience with machine controls, electrical theory, PLC ladder logic
  • Experience with robotics and robotic programing
  • Understanding and design-to-cost principles and ROI analysis
  • Current Program Special Access
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project)

Primary Level Salary Range: $146,600.00 - $219,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
