LA28 is the independent, non-profit, privately funded organizing committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Manager, Sustainable Venue Design and Development

Embedded in LA28's Venue Infrastructure (VNI) team with a dotted line to the Sustainability Team, the Manager, Sustainable Venue Design and Development, will support and deliver LA28’s environmental targets and best practice outcomes across Games’ venues and non-field of play locations.  

This position requires relevant experience of built environment and event delivery sustainability mechanisms, excellent stakeholder management skills, and an ability to tactically deliver results in an exciting, complex, multi-stakeholder environment.  

This role will report to the Principal, Sustainable Venue Design & Development. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the integration of LA28’s sustainability strategy, including its objectives and targets into venue design, construction, and delivery. 
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on sustainable design, building materials, carbon reduction and post-Games circularity strategies, and other relevant areas of sustainability. 
  • Use existing LA28 sustainability collateral and continuously update and implement new systems to support VNI colleagues in the delivery of sustainability objectives and targets and best practice outcomes. 
  • Support the use of novel technologies in implementing sustainable design and responsible material use. 
  • Develop mechanisms to communicate sustainability initiatives and progress to diverse audiences. 
  • Assist in the planning and execution of sustainability-focused workshops with internal and external stakeholders, covering a variety of VNI settings. 
  • Track and pursue workshop outcomes alongside other VNI sustainability opportunities and deliverables. 
  • Assist in producing sustainability aspects of vendor or contractor scope of works and assess potential vendors or contractors using LA28’s sustainable procurement system.  
  • Support the overseeing of vendor or contractor sustainability deliverables. 
  • Help the Sustainability Team’s carbon and circularity specialists in the collection and assessment of data needed to ensure targets are met.  
  • Input into wider departmental and Games-wide reporting mechanisms. 
  • Foster a culture of sustainability, demonstrating a clear passion for creating a positive environmental and social legacy.  
Background & Requirements:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in sustainability within built environment design, delivery, construction and ‘end-of-life’ - ideally with a focus on sports/ major public events. 
  • Strong understanding of sustainability principles in the built environment, including optimizing environmental performance, supporting local biodiversity, calculating and reducing carbon footprints, and maximizing circular outcomes.  
  • Knowledge of supply chains and responsible materials sourcing and application. 
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues in a fast-paced, multifaceted system to maximize sustainability opportunities in a practical and pragmatic manner. 
  • Background in working alongside consultants, contractors and vendors to maximize their delivery of sustainable outcomes within their scope of works.  
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation, delivering targets and reporting risks, opportunities and outcomes.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Event Management, Architecture, Engineering, etc.), with associated experience of delivering sustainable outcomes within that field - ideally with professional accreditation to demonstrate this.  

Or: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g Environmental Science, Sustainability Management, etc.), with associated experience within the built environment or events management – ideally with professional accreditation to demonstrate this.  

Or: 

  • Demonstrable work experience in relation to overall requirements of the role. 
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Four-to-five day in-office working environment, with potential to travel to and tour VNI jobsites and vendor or contractor manufacturing facilities. Travel may include occasional flights and overnight stays.
  • Majority of work may be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment. 
  • Visits to event venues and hospitality spaces may be necessary, involving physical inspections and coordination with venue staff.
  • Site visits may require navigating varying environmental conditions in external locations. 
  • Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods. 
  • Flexibility or variability in work schedules, including occasional early morning or late evening meetings. 
  • Local, domestic, and international travel may be required, including visits to venues or related facilities across Los Angeles and surrounding areas 

The annual base salary range for this position is $88,000.00 - $115,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
