The Manager, Software Engineering is responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of software projects, requiring a blend of technical knowledge, managerial expertise, and interpersonal skills. They lead technical initiatives, guide engineering teams, and ensure the successful execution of projects. The role includes participating in architectural reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and implementing both functional and non-functional requirements of software systems.

Additionally, the Software Engineering Manager promotes and integrates DevOps best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement through regular retrospectives, feedback loops, and process enhancements. They develop and maintain a comprehensive live site rotation schedule to ensure 24/7 support coverage by training and mentoring team members, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to handle live site issues effectively.

The manager acts as the primary point of contact for live site incidents, overseeing the triage process and conducting root cause analyses. They document and communicate incident reports, resolutions, and lessons learned to relevant stakeholders, ensuring transparency and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Capable of managing a team of developers, providing feedback and training where necessary, assisting with recruitment, and ensure that technical initiatives align with organizational goals working closely with Principal Engineers / Development Directors
  • As a Development Manager, lead, coach and mentor developers assigned to the product/project ensuring performance, maintainability, and functional requirements from design, development, testing to rollout and support
  • Setting performance goals, providing regular feedback, conducting performance reviews, and facilitating professional development.

The Ideal Candidate:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science, or related industry experience

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of professional software development experience in business process automation applications.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Tech Lead
  • 1-3 years of managing a team of developers
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in .Net, C#, Windows tools, ASP.net, and languages as well as modern web frameworks (Angular via Typescript, React)
  • Understanding of Relational and NoSQL Databases, preferably MSSQL and MongDB, data modeling, and strong experience with ORM toolkits a must.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies, Domain Driven Design, Test/Behavior Driven Design, Event Driven via Asynchronous messaging approaches
  • Preferred Experience: ASP.NET, WCF, Web Services, NServiceBus, Message queues, Azure DevOps, Azure Cloud, Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Preferred AI Experience: spec-driven development, tool proficiency (Claude, OpenAI, Vercel), prompt and plan engineering, ML anomaly detection, agent and subagent assisted development, security and oversight, MCP, and RAG implementations

Specialized Skills:

  • Understanding of consumer Lending business
  • Must have a very good understanding of design patterns.
  • Collaborating with other departments (Product, Engineering, etc.) and teams to complete cross-departmental dependencies.
  • Can effectively lead / participate in technical initiatives, collaborative design/requirements meetings while gathering the necessary information for software development.
  • Ownership and accountability mindset, decision making along with communication and analytical skills that helps to partner with Product Owners and cross functional teams.
  • Ensuring that the software development process prioritizes user needs and delivers a high-quality user experience.
  • Developing long-term strategies for software development that align with organizational goals.
  • Coaching team members to improve their performance, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Leadership qualities, an excellent team player with the ability to handle stressful situations.
  • The individual has expertise or curiosity to learn in their chosen technology stack and have a broader knowledge of various programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
  • Using their expertise to manage the design of projects deadlines, priorities, and deliverables.
  • Brings experience and understanding of the application domain, enabling insightful decisions and innovative problem-solving.

The starting salary range for this full-time position in Irvine, CA is $147000 - $184900 per year. This base pay will take into consideration internal equity, candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge and experience among other factors. Origence maintains a highly competitive compensation program. Under company guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual bonus to provide an incentive to achieve targeted goals. Bonuses are awarded at company’s discretion on an individual basis.
