As an Engineering Manager, Quality & Automation at FMX, you will play a key role in shaping the future of quality by leveraging automation best practices while balancing exploratory hands-on testing efforts. In this collaborative and dynamic environment, you will take ownership of our test automation strategy, streamlining processes to better align with traditional dev/ops ci/cd workflows, and working with a small group of quality professionals. Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Develop and coach a team of QA Engineers providing mentorship, guidance, and professional career development opportunities.
  • Collaborative Quality Mindset: Embed quality into every phase of the software development life cycle by collaborating closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure thorough testing coverage, from early requirements gathering through final delivery.
  • Test Automation: Develop and maintain automated test scripts to ensure efficient, repeatable testing across releases. Work on automating key regression and functional tests while maintaining a focus on the user experience.
  • Hands-On Testing: Perform end-to-end, acceptance, and exploratory testing to identify critical bugs and edge cases. Function as the last line of defense for catching issues before they affect customers.
  • Test Case Ownership: Design, document, and execute detailed test cases and scenarios where automation is not applicable, ensuring robust test coverage across all features. Maintain and update test cases as features evolve.
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Collaborate with developers to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve test failures, ensuring any defects are fully addressed before deployment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive strategic process improvement changes within the team.
  • Customer Advocate: Raise issues that impact customers before customers report them, and function as the voice of the customer, advocating on their behalf.

What We're Testing:

  • A SaaS web application built using the C#/ASP.NET MVC.
  • Restful APIs with GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE.
  • Mobile Application built with React Native.
  • Various other web client front ends.
Requirements

Experience We Value:

  • 3+ years of experience managing direct reports.
  • 5+ years of experience working within a full stack Scrum/Agile team.
  • 3+ years working with automation tools and developing scripts for both UI and API testing.
  • 3+ years working with security, performance, and load testing tools.
  • Experience in a B2B SaaS environment.
  • A working understanding of the practical test pyramid.
  • A deep understanding of software testing methodologies, techniques, and best practices.
  • Experience with testing mobile applications is a plus.
  • Experience specifically with Playwright and page object models is a must.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading QA teams in a fast-paced software development environment

The hiring process for this role:

  • Apply! Submit your resume, portfolio link, and answers to the application questions below via the Workable portal. 
  • Phone screen with HR: A 30-minute conversation to review your background and experiences, discuss the culture at FMX, and ensure that you understand the general expectations for the role. Also, a great time for you to ask questions about compensation, benefits, etc.  
  • Virtual interview with hiring manager: A 1-hour conversation to review your background and experiences, get you an overview of the engineering department and processes, and go through some practical testing challenges.
  • Character interview: An hour conversation that consists of a series of questions to determine whether they possess the must have character qualities as well as what you’re looking for in your next role and what direction you see your career path taking. In the interview there will be other engineering managers.
  • Offer Stage: If selected for this role, we will give you a call to extend an offer. 
  • Onboarding: After accepting the offer, we will begin the background screening process. All teammates must pass this step. Once cleared, we will guide you through the onboarding process to get you set up and ready to start!
  • New Hire Class: FMX is a remote-first company; however, you will be expected to be in the office during your first week.

Compensation:

  • We will offer a base salary for this position, and you will be eligible for our company performance bonus. On-target earnings will be discussed in the phone interview.
