Position Summary:

We’re looking for a Manager, People Operations to lead the design, delivery, and optimization of our compensation, benefits, and people operations programs — ensuring they’re competitive, compliant, efficient, and employee-centric.

This is a hands-on player/coach role that balances strategic impact with operational excellence. You’ll oversee total rewards, people systems, and the full employee lifecycle from an operations perspective— from onboarding through transitions and offboarding — while ensuring the integrity of our policies, compliance reporting, and data privacy standards.

You’ll treat the employee experience as a product, leveraging feedback, analytics, and AI-driven insights to continuously improve how people experience work at MacroHealth.

Key Accountabilities:

Total Rewards Leadership

  • Own and optimize compensation and benefits programs for US and Canada, ensuring competitiveness, compliance, and alignment with company philosophy.
  • Partner with the Chief People Officer on compensation and benefits strategy and design; own and manage the daily administration and vendor relationships for all health, welfare, and retirement programs.
  • Oversee 401(k) plan administration, including compliance testing, audits, and vendor coordination.
  • Conduct benchmarking and total rewards analyses to inform pay structures, incentives, and benefit offerings.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Leadership on compensation planning, budgeting, and total rewards communication.
  • Ensure compliance with pay equity, transparency, and employment regulations across jurisdictions.

Employee Lifecycle & Experience

  • Own the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, transitions, internal mobility, leaves, immigration, and offboarding.
  • Manage immigration and visa processes (sponsorships, renewals, and compliance documentation) in partnership with external counsel.
  • Continuously improve lifecycle programs through automation, analytics, and employee feedback.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, and IT to deliver smooth, compliant employee experiences.

People Systems, Analytics & Data Stewardship

  • Lead HR systems strategy, ensuring data accuracy, scalability, and usability.
  • Develop people analytics dashboards that inform leadership decisions around compensation, headcount, retention, and workforce insights.
  • Leverage AI and automation to streamline processes and elevate data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy and security standards, maintaining confidentiality and integrity across systems (e.g., GDPR, PIPEDA).

Policy, Compliance & Governance

  • Maintain and evolve HR policies and handbooks to ensure compliance, equity, and cultural alignment.
  • Partner with Legal and Leadership on policy updates in response to regulatory changes.
  • Oversee compliance reporting, including applicable federal/state filings.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on People policies, ensuring managers and employees understand and apply them consistently.
  • Ensure 100% compliance across compensation, benefits, immigration, and employment audits.

Team Leadership

  • Coach and develop the PeopleOps Generalist, providing direction, feedback, and opportunities for growth.
  • Foster operational excellence and a mindset of continuous improvement within the PeopleOps function.

Required Education and Experience:

  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in People Operations, Total Rewards, or HR, with demonstrated ownership of compensation, benefits, compliance, and HR systems programs.
  • Hands-on experience managing benefits programs, including 401(k) plan administration, vendor management, renewals, and audits.
  • Strong grounding in compensation — able to benchmark roles, analyze market data, and support compensation planning cycles.
  • Proven experience managing compliance reporting (e.g., EEO-1, ACA, COBRA, FMLA) and ensuring adherence to employment regulations.
  • Experience managing immigration and visa processes (sponsorships, renewals, and compliance) for U.S. and/or Canadian employees.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. HR practices and familiarity with Canadian employment and benefits regulations.
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms, analytics, and workflow automation, and curiosity about leveraging AI-driven solutions to improve efficiency and insight.
  • High standards for data accuracy, privacy, and confidentiality, with knowledge of GDPR and PIPEDA compliance principles.
  • A player/coach mindset — able to balance daily execution with process improvement, and to mentor and develop others within the PeopleOps function.
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator with a bias for action.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Compensation and benefits programs are market-aligned, equitable, and clearly communicated.
  • 401(k) and benefits programs are well-managed, compliant, and high-satisfaction.
  • Compliance filings are completed accurately and on time.
  • Employee lifecycle processes (including immigration) are consistent, compliant, and well-rated by employees.
  • HR policies and handbooks are current, clear, and reflect company culture.
  • 20–30% reduction in manual HR work through automation and AI-assisted processes.
  • HR systems data accuracy >95% with strong privacy controls.
  • 100% compliance across pay, benefits, and employment audits.
  • The PeopleOps Generalist is thriving under strong coaching and development.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • people-first culture where your work directly shapes how employees experience the company.
  • The opportunity to blend technology, compliance, and human connection to create a modern People function.
  • A chance to experiment with AI and automation to elevate efficiency and insight.
  • Competitive pay, great benefits, and a supportive, collaborative team that believes in continuous improvement.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
