Sony Pictures is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Manager to join our GFO team supporting new business lines, including Consumer Platforms & Services and Experiences. This role will take a hands-on approach to the RTR function, with direct responsibility for core accounting activities, financial reporting, and analysis.

The Manager will actively oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including journal entries, accrual preparation and review, account reconciliations, and financial statement analysis. The role will partner closely with the invoicing team to ensure billing accuracy and completeness, as well as manage royalty accounting, including calculations, reporting, and coordination with Participations.

This position will also be responsible for corporate reporting requirements, including the preparation and submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with corporate policies and deadlines.

The Manager will work cross-functionally with Divisional Finance (Planning and Forecasting), CapGemini (our outsourced accounting provider), operations teams, and various accounting groups, ensuring accurate and timely financial data across all stakeholders. In addition to oversight, the Manager will be expected to dive into the details—reviewing transactions, resolving discrepancies, and strengthening processes where needed.

The Manager will also play a key role in integrating these new business lines into SPE’s broader Finance and Accounting environment. Responsibilities include managing and reviewing system interfaces, ensuring proper data flow between systems, and maintaining strong internal controls in compliance with accounting standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and manage the monthly accounting close for Consumer Platforms & Services and Experiences, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with SOX controls and timely reporting to management, Corporate, and external auditors (PwC).
  • Prepare and post month-end journal entries, including accruals, intercompany transactions, consolidations, and elimination entries, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial results.
  • Perform analysis of actual results to most recent budget and forecast estimates – preparing appropriate variance explanations thereon and highlighting issues to management.
  • Perform comprehensive analysis of the financial records, identifying discrepancies and driving timely resolution to align with company standards.
  • Prepare and deliver corporate reporting packages (monthly, quarterly, and annual), ensuring compliance with corporate policies, reporting requirements, and deadlines
  • Collaborate with IT and cross-functional teams to maintain and enhance system interfaces, ensuring accurate and efficient data flow across accounting systems.
  • Review, interpret and summarize contracts with appropriate application of accounting policies.
  • Oversee royalty accounting processes, including review of calculations, accruals, and reporting, in coordination with Participations.
  • Continuously monitor financial processes and make recommendations for improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency.
  • Assist in preparing accounting documentation and memorandums for management and audit review/approval.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of strong accounting experience (Big 4 a plus)
  • Entertainment industry experience is preferred
  • Hospitality or Retail industry experience is preferred
  • BS degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
  • Direct experience with complex ERP systems and General Ledger postings (SAP a plus)
  • Strong MS Excel skills required (Modeling, VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Macros, etc.)
  • Experience working with offshore personnel and providing oversight and review of their deliverables
  • Strong time-management skills, ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a fast, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and problem solve with reasonable independence
  • Ability to self-review and produce accurate, reliable and high quality work in an efficient manner
  • Strong initiative, ability to work independently and meet deadlines while understanding when to update and seek guidance from management
  • Ability to lead/follow-through with co-workers on projects/tasks by setting guidelines, timetables and clear sense of expectations
  • Strong level of communication (written and verbal) and excellent interpersonal skills
  • High emphasis on team work, collaboration, critical thinking, process innovation while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to develop presence and become a key “go-to” person within the department
  • Ability to prepare and present issues/projects/presentations to co-workers and senior management
  • Comfortable working and navigating in different systems
  • Change agent and champion mindset

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
