As the VP of Software Development for LoopNet, you will be responsible for leading all development and delivery of software. Your teams will design, develop, test, debug and implement operating systems components, software tools, and utilities; as well as determine systems software design requirements in addition to ensuring that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency. The selected candidate will help transition from current to large new scale systems software engineering policies, standards and procedures at CoStar.

You will work directly with the CEO, CFO, CTO, Senior Product Leadership to define the processes and technology required to support our growing business. In addition, you will provide hands on coaching and development to a team of 80+ software developers.

This role is located in our Irvine, CA office and has a schedule of 4 days on-site and 1 day work from home.  

Responsibilities

  • Act as a player coach with 10+ years of industry experience managing multiple project development teams working on multiple concurrent projects

  • Coordinate the activities and deliverables across 10-15 teams while resolving issues and ensuring appropriate priorities

  • Mentor and manage Technical Managers in the normal execution of their responsibilities.

  • Interact regularly with technology and business executives

  • Conduct ongoing and in depth needs analysis (approximately 20% of total time) with client to obtain detailed business requirements

  • Successfully implement software development projects to specification and within scheduled timelines and budget parameters.  Ensure proper software development practices are followed and provide guidance and/or assistance when necessary

  • Provide status reports and feedback to Business Management

  • Act as release manager to ensure product components are released for production deployment as tested

  • Work with internal and external clients to document project success criteria

  • Drive continuous improvement within Scrum team by focusing on engineering excellence

  • Work with recruiting to identify, hire and onboard top industry talent

  • Manage up or out any team members that are performing below expectation of position.

  • Coach, motivate, train and retain “A Players”

  • Develop and maintain an in-depth working knowledge of the CRE Industry and CoStar’s position in the Commercial Real Estate market

  • Continually evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities, trends and best practices that can be used to strengthen CoStar’s technology platform and development practices

  • Act as "Voice of the Customer" when participating in product readiness reviews

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or adjacent field required from an accredited, not for profit, university or college

  • A track record of commitment to prior employers

  • 10+ years of experience leading large engineering teams focused on building software web tools.

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams while thriving in a fast-paced growth tech environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong internal relationships and managing key stakeholders, including at the CEO level.

  • Experience architecting, building, and operating well architected, high-availability, cloud-based software systems, including full stack product platforms (UIs, APIs, Data, etc.)

  • Hands-on development experience with front end development technologies (we use JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular, etc.) and/or API / platform development (we use C#). Active hands-on development skills are not needed, but knowledge is essential.

  • Project leadership on a large, multi-team, multi-discipline software product

  • Experience managing and coaching managers and senior engineers

  • Strong sense of ownership and a track record of shipping and getting things done

  • Attention to detail and an ability to deeply learn complex topics and problems

  • Excellent team building, negotiation and consensus building abilities

This position offers a base salary range of $250,000 – $460,000, based on relevant skills and experience and includes a generous bonus and benefits plan
