Team and Role Overview

We have an ambitious mission, and we understand that it takes a team to achieve it. Our team is driving towards our mission of launching our first 3-D printed rocket to orbit in 2021.
Our Corporate Counsel will join our close-knit legal team and partner closely with other teams, including Finance and People, to help scale our organization through hypergrowth. You possess corporate prowess and are equally strategic and implementation-driven. You are unafraid to help leaders and employees see the big picture and you deliver legal advice with confidence. You are willing to present creative solutions to challenges you come across and tackle tough issues, all while being driven by a strong ethical compass and legal considerations.
This role will be reporting directly to the General Counsel.
The Mission/Outcomes and Objectives
You will be advising the company on a broad range of corporate, securities, governance and employee matters, including. Among other things, you will:
- Build and scale the corporate and securities function and provide day-to-day counseling and advice on corporate and securities law matters
- Support the General Counsel in advising the Board of Directors on corporate governance and improving Board processes and practices
- Oversee equity administration and advise on equity grant matters
- Effectively manage outside counsel in all stages of complex corporate transactions, including secondary and primary financing transactions
- Advise on employment matters
- Partner with the People team on developing and refining employee policies
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other members of the team and other functions, including Finance and People
- Review, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts
- Willingly research and advise on other generalist in-house legal topics, even if outside of your current fields of experience
Minimum Required Skills and Competencies
- Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- Admitted to and member in good standing of California bar, or else other state Bar with ability to become registered in-house counsel in California promptly upon joining Relativity
- 5+ years of relevant firm and/or in-house experience
- Corporate expertise and an extensive knowledge of corporate and securities law
- Skillful drafter and issue-spotter who takes both legal and business risks into consideration
- Great attention to detail
- Excellent communication (written, verbal, presentation), problem solving, and negotiation skills
- Eager collaborator who works well cross-functionally and on projects that are new and/or unfamiliar
- Ability to work on multiple issues simultaneously and set appropriate priorities while delivering results efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Genuine enthusiasm for space
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- representing fast-paced emerging-growth companies
- space, aerospace & defense sector
- employment law
- tech transactions/commercial contracts
- negotiating government contracts
Nice to haves:
- Top secret clearance
- Familiarity with export control laws
- Generalist legal background in addition to required qualifications above
