Legal Regulatory Specialist

Location: Hybrid: La Jolla, CA


The Details:

The Legal Regulatory Specialist will support regulatory compliance and legal operations for a regulated insurance organization. This role focuses primarily on insurance regulatory filings, licensing, and compliance tracking across multiple entities and jurisdictions, with limited exposure to public company matters.

 

The ideal candidate has experience working in a regulated environment—preferably insurance—and is comfortable managing detailed filings, coordinating with regulators, and maintaining accurate compliance records. This position serves as a key execution role within the Legal team and works closely with Legal leadership and administrative support.

 

What will you do:

Insurance Regulatory Filings & Licensing

  • Prepare, submit, and track insurance regulatory filings, renewals, and amendments for insurance companies and related entities
  • Support multi-state licensing and appointment processes, including entity and individual licenses
  • Maintain accurate regulatory calendars and filing trackers to ensure timely compliance
  • Coordinate background checks, fingerprints, biographical affidavits, and related regulatory documentation
  • Communicate with state Departments of Insurance, NIPR, SBS, and third-party vendors regarding filings and status updates

Regulatory Compliance Support

  • Assist with monitoring regulatory requirements and identifying upcoming obligations
  • Maintain organized records of filings, approvals, and correspondence
  • Support audits, examinations, and regulatory inquiries by compiling documentation and responding to routine requests
  • Partner with internal teams (Operations, Finance, People & Talent) to collect information required for filings

Corporate & Legal Operations Support

  • Assist with maintaining entity records, officer listings, and corporate documentation
  • Support internal legal processes and standardized workflows
  • Prepare routine legal documents and forms under attorney or Legal leadership direction
  • Track deadlines, deliverables, and follow-ups to completion

Administrative Coordination

  • Coordinate with Legal Admin on routine tasks and documentation
  • Escalate complex or time-sensitive issues to Legal leadership as appropriate
  • Ensure work product is accurate, complete, and submitted on time


What we are looking for:

  • 3–5 years of paralegal or compliance experience in a regulated environment (insurance strongly preferred)
  • Experience with insurance regulatory filings, licensing, or compliance processes
  • Familiarity with NIPR, SBS, or state Department of Insurance portals preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Experience supporting insurance agencies, MGAs, or carriers across multiple states is preferred, but not required
  • Exposure to public company legal or compliance work is preferred, but not required
  • Experience working with compliance calendars and complex trackers is preferred, but not required
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • High degree of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information

CCPA Job Applicant: 

Pay Range: $85,000 - $105,000

 

The above pay range is for all US-based roles based on function and level, benchmarked against companies of similar size and scope. To be compliant with local legislation as well as provide greater transparency to candidates, we disclose salary ranges on all job postings regardless of the desired job location. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and the opportunity for annual long-term incentive stock grants. In addition, we offer a highly competitive benefits package. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and qualifications, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
