At IMAX, we’re not just about the movies—we’re about creating unforgettable experiences and supporting world-class creativity through amazing workplace environments. The Workplace Safety and Operations Lead plays a key part in keeping our teams and guests safe, comfortable, and inspired.
The Workplace Safety and Operations Lead is responsible for executing local health and safety, security, and operational programs aligned with OSHA and IMAX global standards. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Workplace, this role ensures seamless daily operations and assumes leadership during the manager’s brief absences.
What You'll Do:
Safety
This position will have a key responsibility to deliver global office safety programs, locally. We are seeking someone with experience and knowledge to lead workplace health and safety efforts for the Playa Vista facility.
Leading and implementing local health and safety initiatives aligned with global programs and OSHA compliance.
Conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and job safety analyses to proactively identify and mitigate hazards.
Developing, implementing, and regularly testing emergency response plans and procedures.
Performing in assigned role during emergencies, which may include coordinating with first responders and VIPs.
Chairing the Health and Safety Committee: schedule and lead meetings, track action items, lead inspection activities, and ensure timely corrective actions, including escalations as required.
Collaborating with the Global Safety team to develop and deliver local training programs.
Operations
The Workplace and Safety Lead will work closely with the Sr. Manager, Workplace, and Chief Building Engineer to support all aspects of day-to-day operations and maintenance at the Playa Vista facility. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, vendor coordination, and a proactive approach to maintaining a high-functioning, welcoming workplace, and a great experience for all occupants and visitors.
Support and oversee facility maintenance using Maintenance Management Systems (MMS) to assign and resolve issues.
Conduct routine facility inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and proper maintenance.
Manage vendor performance, cost, service, and quality.
Assist with the coordination and setup for internal and external events, which requires occasional after-hours and weekend support.
Familiarity with technical systems such as Building Automation System (BAS) and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems.
Ability to read architectural and engineering drawings.
Willingness to respond to after-hours building emergencies.
Manage vendor service agreements (janitorial, valet, security, etc.), including scope, staffing, invoicing, and service levels.
Security
The Workplace and Safety Lead will help maintain a secure environment in alignment with studio and industry security standards.
Serve as a key user of the Genetec security system: troubleshoot issues, act as the primary contact for service/maintenance, and retrieve incident footage or logs.
Assist in incident response and investigation, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external authorities as needed.
Handle sensitive information with a high degree of discretion and sound judgment.
Coordinating service activities with vendor and IMAX head office.
Teamwork
Serve as second-in-command for all workplace matters; assume leadership responsibilities when Sr. Manager is absent.
Independently make decisions on urgent operational issues and escalate appropriately
Maintain strong working relationships with departments such as IT, HR, Legal, and Security
What You'll Need:
Education in Occupational Health & Safety or significant hands-on experience managing workplace safety programs.
First Aid/CPR certified (or willingness to recertify with IMAX).
Demonstrated progression in safety / facilities operations / workplace experience over multiple years.
Familiarity with incident management and emergency response.
Proficient in common workplace software (MS Office, Slack, etc.)
Nice to Have
Technical background in facilities systems (BAS, CMMS, Security).
Experience managing vendor contracts and service agreements.
Calm and confident during emergency scenarios or high-pressure situations
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Proactive problem-solver who anticipates needs and follows through
Able to balance employee experience with regulatory compliance
Comfortable engaging with staff, executives, and VIP guests

Compensation:
