About Moon

Moon is an ambitious, independent vertical SaaS company incubated by Home Organizers, a market leader with decades of proven success in home organization through its subsidiaries, including Closet World, Closets by Design, and Brio Water Technology. Born inside one of the industry's largest operators — 6,000+ employees, hundreds of thousands of new customers served annually — Moon is built on a rare advantage: we build for the home improvement industry from within it.

Our mission is to reinvent the home improvement experience end to end. From AI-driven marketing and in-home 3D design to sales, service, and operations, Moon unifies the entire customer and business journey on a single platform — supercharged by Luna, our proprietary AI engine. Where most operators stitch together disconnected tools that don't understand the homeowner, we're building the unified operating system the industry has never had. We're a rapidly growing team of committed builders, driven to reimagine how this industry sells, designs, and delivers — and to power the next generation of operators, from single-location dealers to national franchise networks.

Role Overview

You will be the technical lead of Moon's core platform: auth and identity, multi-entity tenancy, the entitlements engine, payments and financing APIs, cross-platform communication services, and the databases everything runs on. Every module team builds on the foundation you keep solid.

About the role

You will join a small, senior platform team as its lead engineer, working with the Senior EM and the Principal Engineer on the contracts, reliability, and data architecture that let small teams ship continuously without colliding.

What you'll do

Lead the design and build of core services: identity, tenancy, entitlements, payments and financing APIs, messaging buses - and the common shared services every module consumes: email, SMS, voice and communication services, and the client database.

Own database architecture and performance; uphold demanding reliability commitments.

Enforce contract-first discipline: versioned APIs, clean deprecation windows, no surprise breaking changes.

Enforce engineering standards via code review across the application, including proper use of the design system via Storybook.

Mentor the team's engineers; encode critical business rules as CI-enforced invariants.

Qualifications

7+ years of backend engineering with distributed systems in production.

Deep database and API design experience; payments or fintech integration experience a strong plus.

Has been the technical lead others calibrate against.

   Pragmatic architecture instincts; ships.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
