Job Description

Fortune Brands Innovations is hiring a Lead Mechanical Engineer with significant experience in consumer electronics to join our Connected Products team. In this role, you’ll mentor a team of mechanical engineers while driving the mechanical design strategy for FBIN’s connected products from initial concept through mass production. This role provides the opportunity to develop mechanical architecture decisions, guide technical direction across multiple programs, and serve as a senior technical authority to drive projects through detailed design, prototyping, validation, DFM, and development stages (EVT, DVT, PVT, MP).

To be successful as a Lead Mechanical Engineer at FBIN, you’ll have a passion for building innovative solutions, a track record of shipping Consumer Electronic products at scale, and the ability to develop and inspire engineering talent. 

LOCATION: This position is eligible for hybrid schedule (Mondays and Fridays are remote) from either North Olmsted, OH or San Francisco, CA 

RESPONSIBLIITIES: 

  • Lead architecture and analysis, parts design, documentation, and functional validation of mechanical components and assemblies across multiple concurrent programs. 

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of mechanical engineers, setting standards for design quality and engineering best practices. 

  • Drive mechanical design strategy in partnership with ID, Product, and Program Management, influencing new product direction from concept through launch. 

  • Own system integration of mechanical and electromechanical subassemblies, ensuring alignment across cross-functional teams. 

  • Interface with and manage relationships with suppliers/partners, EE, manufacturing and operations, quality, and other development groups. 

  • Lead rapid feasibility studies and design reviews, making and communicating trade-off decisions for cost, schedule, and performance. 

  • Serve as the senior technical authority for complex multi-discipline projects, resolving escalated engineering challenges. 

  • Champion DFM and manufacturing readiness, guiding programs through EVT, DVT, PVT, and MP milestones 

  • Oversee mechanical reliability testing programs, defining test plans, interpreting results, and driving corrective actions to ensure products meet durability and performance standards 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, other relevant fields, or equivalent experience. 

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design of consumer electronics, IOT, medical devices, or similar electro-mechanical products. 

  • Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring engineering teams. 

  • Proven track record of successfully shipping multiple high-volume products from concept to mass production. 

  • Strong cross-functional communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions at a senior level.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role in CA is Hiring Pay Range: $135,000 - 212,500 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
