About the role

Carbon Health is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Laboratory Manager to support laboratory operations at a respected client site in Los Angeles, California. This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership and managerial skills, experience in clinical lab environments, and a dedication to patient care and precision

What you'll do

  • In the absence of the Laboratory Director and Technical Supervisor, the Laboratory Manager shall be responsible for the proper performance of all laboratory procedures and reporting of test results.
  • The Laboratory Manager is responsible for day-to-day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting test results.
  • The Laboratory Manager shall be accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation to resolve technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established either by the Laboratory Director or Technical Supervisor.
    • Shall be responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance by testing personnel.
    • Shall be accessible to provide direct supervision when high complexity testing is performed.
    • Shall be responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • The Laboratory Director or Technical Supervisor may delegate to the Laboratory Manager the responsibility for:
    • Assuring that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the established performance specifications.
    • Ensuring that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning;
    • Providing orientation to all testing personnel; and
    • Annually evaluating and documenting the performance of all testing personnel.
  • The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the overall managerial and administrative duties of the laboratory.
    • Coordinate and facilitate ongoing training programs and competency assessments for all laboratory personnel
    • Manage employee schedules, attendance, and time-off requests
    • Serve as primary liaison between laboratory staff and senior management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field
  • Current certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by ASCP, AMT, or equivalent certifying agency
  • Minimum 3-5 years of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting
  • Minimum 3-5 years of managerial or supervisory experience
  • Experience with laboratory information systems and data management platforms
  • Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and middleware platforms
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, database management, and data analysis software
  • Familiarity with laboratory automation and digital pathology systems
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality management systems
