Design, deploy, and own deterministic, time-synchronized infrastructure for hardware test facilities. Lead test stand deployments, manage networking (PTP/NTP), servers, virtualization, storage, hybrid cloud, IaC, backup/recovery, and security alignment with enterprise standards while supporting CI/CD and test operations.
The IT Systems Engineer II (Test) at Impulse designs, deploys, and owns infrastructure enabling hardware testing, telemetry, and engineering operations across test facilities. This role bridges enterprise IT standards with specialized test-environment requirements, ensuring deterministic, time-synchronized, and highly reliable infrastructure supporting active test programs. Engineers at this level independently deliver infrastructure solutions, lead test stand bring-ups, and assume ownership of networking, timing, and systems platforms within integration and test environments.
Responsibilities
- Design and deploy infrastructure for test facilities, including rack layouts, MDF/IDF architecture, and fiber distribution
- Lead infrastructure projects for test stand deployments, relocations, and facility expansions
- Plan and manage scalable, redundant, and high-capacity network architectures
- Design and operate deterministic test networks with IEEE-1588 PTP and NTP synchronization
- Troubleshoot latency, packet loss, and timing issues affecting telemetry and control systems
- Engineer and maintain servers, virtualization platforms, storage, and hybrid cloud/on-prem infrastructure
- Implement backup, recovery, and infrastructure lifecycle management strategies
- Develop automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions to improve provisioning and test readiness
- Support CI/CD integration and collaborate with Test and Automation Engineering teams during live operations
- Ensure infrastructure security, segmentation, compliance, and alignment with zero-trust and enterprise IT standards
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong networking expertise including switching, routing, VLANs, and troubleshooting
- Hands-on experience deploying and troubleshooting time-synchronized systems (PTP/NTP)
- Experience designing physical infrastructure and facility network deployments
- Administration experience with Linux and Windows systems
- Cisco or equivalent enterprise networking experience
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 7+ years’ experience supporting infrastructure or test engineering environments
- Aerospace, manufacturing, or propulsion test environment experience
- Deterministic or time-sensitive networking experience
- Virtualization and hybrid cloud integration experience
- Infrastructure automation experience
- Experience operating in regulated or compliance-driven environments
Operational Expectations
- Onsite role embedded within test facilities
- Leadership during infrastructure deployment and active testing operations

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity.
