IT Project EngineerAbout SugarShot

SugarShot is a managed services provider delivering IT, cybersecurity, cloud, and advisory services to growing businesses. We combine a proactive, security-first approach with responsive support and practical technology solutions that help our clients operate effectively and grow with confidence.

Our teams collaborate across Engineering, Project Management, Service Delivery, and Client Success. We value clear communication, ownership, and continuous improvement. You’ll have the opportunity to solve varied technical challenges, contribute ideas, and help improve how we serve our clients.

About the Role

SugarShot is seeking a Project Engineer who can design, build, and implement technology solutions for our clients. This is a hands-on engineering role spanning Microsoft and Mac environments, infrastructure and endpoint projects, and practical uses of AI and automation. You will turn client needs into workable technical designs, deliver the solution, and make sure it can be supported after launch.

The right person combines strong systems engineering expertise with sound judgment and clear communication. You work independently, collaborate effectively with project managers, technical teams, and client stakeholders, and take ownership of delivering reliable, supportable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead technical discovery, assess current environments, define requirements, and design solutions that fit client needs, security standards, and supportability.
  • Build and implement projects across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Windows, Azure, macOS, Apple device management, and related identity, collaboration, and endpoint platforms.
  • Partner with the project manager to develop technical estimates, identify dependencies and resource needs, and provide timely updates on progress, risks, and blockers. Flag changes that may affect scope, budget, or delivery dates before proceeding.
  • Execute migrations, deployments, integrations, configuration changes, and modernization projects with clear plans, validation, rollback considerations, and client communication.
  • Follow established change-management processes, coordinate maintenance windows and client approvals, and validate that delivered solutions meet agreed requirements before project closure.
  • Design and implement production-ready AI-assisted workflows and automations that solve specific business or service-delivery problems. Use scripting, APIs, and workflow tools to connect systems and data, automate repeatable processes, and apply appropriate access controls, human review, logging, testing, and data-handling safeguards.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across Microsoft and Mac environments and work with project managers, service delivery, security, and client stakeholders to resolve dependencies.
  • Produce clear technical documentation, implementation records, training, and handoffs so delivered solutions are sustainable for the client and our support teams.
  • Maintain accurate time entries and project records, and provide post-implementation stabilization support to resolve issues and complete the transition to service delivery.
  • Recommend improvements based on project findings and help standardize reusable designs and automations across clients.
  • Participate in after-hours implementations, cutovers, and maintenance windows as project needs require. Occasional client-site visits and travel may also be required.
Requirements
  • Minimum three years of experience as a Project Engineer.
  • Experience managing your technical work within a project, including planning tasks, estimating effort, tracking progress, meeting deadlines, and communicating dependencies, risks, and blockers to the project manager.
  • Experience delivering client-facing IT projects in an MSP or other multi-client environment.
  • Strong hands-on proficiency across Microsoft and Mac ecosystems, including Windows and macOS administration, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, identity and endpoint management, migrations, security controls, cloud or hybrid environments, and at least one Apple management platform such as Addigy or Jamf.
  • Hands-on experience building production automations and AI workflows using PowerShell, Python, APIs, Microsoft Power Automate, or comparable tools, with a practical understanding of testing, support, governance, and platform limitations.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements, evaluate tradeoffs and implementation risks, and communicate clearly with technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Strong documentation and independent-work skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across multiple time zones with project managers, technical and engineering teams, clients, and internal teams.
Helpful Experience
  • PSA/RMM platforms such as ConnectWise Manage, NinjaOne, or related MSP tooling.
  • Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure AI services, or comparable enterprise AI platforms.
  • Microsoft Graph, Apple Business Manager, Autopilot, and cross-platform endpoint deployment.
  • Security, compliance, or governance requirements in regulated client environments.
  • Relevant Microsoft or Apple certifications, or a portfolio of delivered engineering and automation work.
What Success Looks Like

You deliver projects that meet the client’s goals, work reliably across their Microsoft and Mac environment, and transition cleanly into support. Your AI and automation work reduces manual effort or improves outcomes in measurable ways, with the safeguards and documentation needed to operate it confidently.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
