Clocktower Group is an alternative asset management and advisory firm based in Santa Monica, California, with a presence in London and Shanghai. Our top-down macro framework and relationship-based investing approach inform our strategies and drive the way we do business. In public markets, we seed macro-oriented managers and invest in China-focused equities managers. In private markets, we invest in early stage fintech companies. We also provide global macro research, advisory services, and host events all over the world.
We are seeking a driven and talented individual to join our public markets investment team in Santa Monica, reporting to the Partner leading Public Markets. In this seat you'll serve as the coverage person for global commodity managers and independently source, diligence, and monitor the universe, alongside portfolio monitoring, investment research, and investor servicing. This role blends analytical rigor with operational excellence, offering exposure to the full life cycle of hedge fund investing—from due diligence through performance attribution and investor reporting.
A competitive candidate will pair deep analytical judgment with the ability to own a manager relationship end to end, with limited oversight. You should have a well-formed view of commodity markets, be intellectually curious and proactive, and be able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced investor who wants real autonomy within an entrepreneurial, globally minded firm.
Responsibilities:
  • Manager Sourcing & Due Diligence: Independently source, evaluate, and monitor global commodity managers — including existing global manager coverage — owning the full diligence process from first meeting through investment committee recommendation.
  • Materials Creation and maintenance: Draft, refine, and present investment memos, slides, and internal presentations for committee review and client updates. Maintain accurate records of manager communications, diligence materials, and portfolio data in CRM and reporting systems.
  • Industry Research: Assist in the industry research process, including in-depth cross-commodity product and cross-geographic region research, chart creation, report layout, distribution, and presentation of reports.
  • Post-investment Monitoring: Day-to-day monitoring existing investment and forward-looking pipelines.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other senior investment professionals, operations, and other teams to support firmwide goals.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-6+ years of relevant experience in hedge fund investing, manager selection, commodity research, or asset management.
  • Prior manager selection experience is required, including direct ownership of due diligence on external managers.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams independently.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with large datasets, financial models, and performance metrics.
  • Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; familiarity with CRMs or portfolio management systems a plus.
  • A collaborative, resourceful self-starter with strong communication skills and a high level of integrity.
  • Excellent organizational habits and meticulous attention to detail.

What you’ll get:
  • All the resources you’ll need to learn and grow.
  • Independence to run with your ideas.
  • Joining an elite team that works with some of the most sophisticated investors and entrepreneurs in the world.
  • World-class benefit programs, including options for health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan (with matching), generous vacation, and sick leave.
  • Delicious, daily lunches and snacks.
  • Beautiful office space with amazing ocean views.

Salary Range: $130,000 – $150,000. Compensation may vary based on experience, training, and education. This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
