We’re actively seeking a talented Investment Modeling specialist to join our Investment Risk Team in Newport Beach, CA. This position requires in-office attendance at least four days per week.

How you'll help us move forward:

This role requires hands-on involvement in production execution and support.  The candidate should be comfortable reviewing data, running and troubleshooting processes, examining cash flows and analytics, modifying code, documenting controls, and resolving time-sensitive issues.  The candidate is expected to work in a matrix environment with other professionals in the risk team, accounting leaders, investment professionals, and senior actuaries.  In this capacity, the candidate is expected to:

  • Own and execute recurring investment-modeling production processes, including asset cash-flow generation, investment analytics, and delivery of results to downstream risk, actuarial, and reporting teams.
  • Monitor production runs, investigate data or model exceptions, resolve processing issues, and escalate material concerns when appropriate.
  • Perform reasonableness reviews, reconciliations, variance analysis, and quality-control checks to support the completeness and accuracy of production results.
  • Maintain and enhance production code, controls, and process documentation.
  • Automate manual activities and improve the efficiency, repeatability, transparency, and control of existing production processes.
  • Coordinate production inputs and deliverables across investment risk, actuarial, accounting, investment management, and technology teams.
  • Work with internal and external modeling platforms and data providers to diagnose issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Support the onboarding of new investments, asset types, models, and business requirements into established production processes.
  • Provide investment-modeling expertise to actuaries and other business partners, including explanations of cash-flow behavior, assumptions, limitations, and changes in results.
  • Contribute to model enhancements and new analytical capabilities while maintaining primary accountability for production delivery and support.

The experience you bring:

  • 10+ years of direct experience supporting investment modeling, risk analytics, and asset cash-flow generation across a broad range of asset classes including but not limited to corporate bonds, structured products, and commercial and residential loans.
  • Working knowledge of fixed-income investments, including the drivers of projected cash flows, valuations, market-risk measures, and investment performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage recurring deliverables, investigate unexpected results, and meet established production deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to distinguish data, model, system, and process issues.
  • Ability to explain analytical results and technical issues clearly to actuarial, investment, accounting, risk, and technology partners.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders and dependencies.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and process controls.
  • Experience with asset-liability management, regulatory capital, and statutory reporting is a plus.
  • An advanced degree in a quantitative field such as Finance, Math, or Engineering is preferred.  CFA/FRM designation is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience using Python, R, MATLAB, SAS, SQL, or a comparable language to support analytics, data processing, model execution, controls, or production automation.
  • Experience with investment and analytical platforms such as Bloomberg, Intex, RiskSpan, FactSet, Aladdin, CoStar, Trepp, Moody’s, S&P, etc.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
