Investment Manager
 

The Investment Manager is responsible for managing and optimizing the insurance company’s investment and mortgage portfolios while ensuring strong financial performance, prudent risk management, and regulatory compliance within the Aruban market. The role incorporates investment management, mortgage lending oversight, treasury functions, and key external relationship management with borrower, developers, and real estate professionals.

This position plays a central role in supporting the company’s long term financial sustainability and strategic growth through disciplined portfolio oversight, strong analytical capabilities, and effective stakeholder engagement.


Job Responsibilities

Investment Portfolio Management

  • Manage and monitor the company’s investment portfolio across asset classes (fixed income, equities, real estate, alternatives).
  • Conduct macroeconomic, market, and credit analysis to support investment decisions.
  • Liaise with overseas investment managers
  • Execute transactions within approved mandates and ensure compliance with investment policies.
  • Review legal documents of syndicated loans
  • Prepare performance reports, analytics, and recommendations for senior management.
  • Support the ongoing development and refinement of strategic and tactical asset allocation.

Mortgage Portfolio Management

  • Oversee the mortgage loan portfolio including origination reviews, underwriting oversight, and pricing recommendations.
  • Supervise the mortgage team responsible for processing, servicing, and customer interactions.
  • Monitor loan performance, arrears, collateral valuations, and credit metrics.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with developers, realtors, and prospective borrowers.
  • Recommend improvements to mortgage policies, underwriting standards, and risk processes.

Treasury Management

  • Manage day to day liquidity needs, cash forecasting, and cash flow planning.
  • Optimize cash utilization and ensure adequate liquidity for operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor banking relationships and negotiate treasury related services.
  • Oversee short term placements and liquidity investment instruments.

External Representation & Borrower Relations

  • Represent the company at lender, banker, and financing institution meetings.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external financial partners to support funding efficiency and investment execution.
  • Participate in negotiations related to credit facilities, financing arrangements, or strategic banking initiatives.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with CBA regulatory requirements for investments and mortgage operations.
  • Prepare and review regulatory filings, quarterly reports, and documentation related to investment and solvency compliance.
  • Monitor adherence to internal investment mandates, limits, and governance frameworks.
  • Work with compliance and legal teams to implement new regulatory developments.

Risk Management

  • Identify, measure, and monitor market, credit, liquidity, and concentration risks.
  • Support stress testing, scenario analysis, and risk reporting.
  • Recommend risk mitigation strategies for both investment and mortgage portfolios.
  • Ensure alignment of portfolio structure with the company’s overall risk appetite.

Corporate Transactions & Strategic Support

  • Provide analytical support on corporate transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic partnerships.
  • Contribute to capital structuring analyses, assessing funding options, cost of capital, and long term financial impact.
  • Advise on the profitability and sustainability of insurance and pension products from an investment and asset liability management perspective.
  • Conduct due diligence, financial modeling, and scenario analysis to support executive decision making.

 

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Investments, Business, or a related field (required)
  • CFA, FRM, or similar certifications are considered strong assets.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in investment management, asset management, corporate finance, banking, or related financial functions.
  • Experience in mortgage lending, real estate finance, or credit underwriting is preferred.
  • Background in regulated financial institutions or insurance companies is an advantage.
  • Experience supervising staff and leading small teams is desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of investment instruments and financial markets.
  • Advanced financial modelling and analytical capabilities.
  • Knowledge of treasury operations and liquidity management.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk, mortgage processes, and collateral management.
  • Proficiency in Excel, financial analysis tools, and portfolio systems.
