As an Information Security Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in the daily operations of a security program supporting a highly regulated, mission-critical environment. You will work alongside experienced security engineers and analysts on real projects involving security monitoring, policy implementation, vulnerability management, and compliance initiatives. 
This role is ideal for students pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field to gain meaningful experience in a security program that supports aerospace and defense operations. 
*This internship is 12 weeks long from May/June through August/September 2027

Responsibilities
  • Assist with daily security monitoring activities, including alert triage, log review, and incident response tasks under supervision. 
  • Participate in vulnerability management workflows, including scanning, report generation, and remediation tracking. 
  • Support user access reviews, security control checks, and policy compliance activities. 
  • Help implement and validate endpoint and network security controls (e.g., EDR, firewall rules, MFA policies) under the guidance of the security team. 
  • Contribute to internal documentation including security procedures, playbooks, and compliance artifacts. 
  • Participate in security awareness initiatives, training content development, and communication campaigns. 
  • Assist with governance and risk assessments, including control validation and evidence collection for frameworks such as NIST 800-171 and CMMC. 
  • Support audit readiness efforts by organizing documentation and assisting with internal security reviews. 


Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field. 
  • Strong interest in information security, compliance, and risk management. 
  • Foundational understanding of security principles, including authentication, access control, encryption, and network defense. 
  • Familiarity with security tools and technologies such as SIEM, EDR, firewalls, or vulnerability scanners is a plus. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail. 


Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Coursework or project experience with security frameworks such as NIST, CIS, or ISO 27001. 
  • Exposure to scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell). 
  • Familiarity with incident response or security operations workflows. 
Additional Requirements: 
  • Willing and able to work on-site in Redondo Beach, CA for the duration of the internship 
  • This position may require overtime hours; interns are eligible for overtime pay.

Additional Information:
Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
Impulse Space’s spacecraft manufacturing business is subject to U.S. export regulations including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
