We are seeking a highly motivated Industry Strategy Manager to provide strategic and operational support across the firm’s industry teams. Reporting to the Senior Director, this individual will play a key role in advancing the firm’s long‑term business strategy within key client industries. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, strong collaborator, and proactive problem solver who thrives in a fast‑paced professional services environment.

In this role, you will work closely with Industry Team Leaders, department and practice leadership, attorneys, and administrative departments to help build sustainable competitive advantage and drive growth across assigned industries.

This hybrid position offers a work schedule of 2- 3 days a week in the office if you reside in a city with a Ballard location.

Why Join Us?

  • Innovative Work Environment: Become part of a forward-thinking firm that enjoys substantial support and visibility from the firm’s executive leadership.

  • Professional Development: Take advantage of continuous learning opportunities and avenues for career growth.

  • Inclusion: Join a Business Resource Group and share cultural, experiential, or job-related interests, experiences, and/or backgrounds.

  • Impactful Contributions: Play a pivotal role in developing industry-leading solutions that make a significant difference in legal practice and client service.

Your Role:

As an Industry Strategy Manager within the Marketing/Business Development Team, you will:

  • Develop strategic goals for assigned industry teams in collaboration with Industry Leaders and senior colleagues.

  • Identify and analyze market and legal trends to support go‑to‑market strategies and growth initiatives.

  • Manage and analyze internal data related to clients, capabilities, and services.

  • Plan and prepare annual meeting industry sessions.

  • Collaborate with Marketing, Business Development, Research & Intelligence, and Talent teams to support cross‑functional initiatives.

What we are looking for:

  • Growth Mindset: Self-motivated with a passion for continuous learning and problem-solving.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

  • Detail-Oriented: Keen attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently.

Required Experience:

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and bring five to seven years of experience in professional services, marketing or business development, with law firm experience strongly preferred. Experience in the life sciences, health care, or technology sectors is a plus. This role requires exceptional writing, editing, and communication abilities, along with strong project management, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Candidates should be highly proficient in MS Office, and familiarity with CRM tools such as Interaction is advantageous. A strong client‑service mindset, solid business acumen, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a collaborative environment are essential. The position may require occasional travel and the flexibility to work beyond standard hours when needed. Success in this role also depends on demonstrating core competencies, including anticipating client needs, communicating effectively with diverse audiences, and maintaining technical proficiency across firm systems such as MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, NetDocuments, Elite, and other databases. The individual must exercise sound judgment, strategic thinking, and discretion while solving problems and managing sensitive information. Strong teamwork skills are critical, as is the ability to build constructive relationships and positively influence others. This role calls for initiative, innovation, and a proactive approach to professional development, along with the ability to adapt to change, balance competing priorities, and consistently meet deadlines. Professionalism is essential, reflected through respectful interactions, reliability, and alignment with the firm’s mission, vision, and values.

The salary range for this position is from $145,000 – $165,000, which reflects the Firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will depend on several factors, such as the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
