MongoDB, as a database software and consistently voted the #1 most wanted database preferred by developers, is continuing to attract the most demanding, innovative companies and development teams in enterprise software.

To meet this demand, we are looking for passionate technologists to join our growing Industry Solutions Team (IST), a remote/flexible, globally-dispersed team. Our objective is to align MongoDB as an industry solution and ensure we understand enterprise clients and their needs to modernize software legacies, transition to modernized solutions, and guide them through continuous data-driven modernization.

MongoDB Industry Solutions Consultants communicate the direction of MongoDB’s platform to customers and industry partner communities (i.e. webinars, client presentations, blog content, video content, live/virtual events, demos, account support, etc.), while keeping up with continuous data trends. We’re looking for someone who is willing/able to deeply understand the technology we work with while being able to communicate it in a language our clients understand, taking into consideration their industries. This will require a technical background, foundational DBMS/DBaaS understanding, programming knowledge, an interest in customer-facing interactions, and a keen interest to continue learning and digging into how this applies to specific industries.

The team responsibilities range from early research into current/up-and-coming industry solutions, collaboration with external partners, collaboration with internal team, from marketing to product and how they ingest and pivot to industry trends, to generating and delivering content of MongoDB as an industry solution internally and externally.  You'll work closely with multiple teams, such as marketing, product, pre-sales, sales enablement and sales teams, as well as play a key role in winning deals and driving the business forward, as subject matter experts. Our team is an exciting, diverse group, made up of ambitious, innovative thinkers that range from software thought leaders and entrepreneurs to young professionals. We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in Toronto for our hybrid working model.

What you will do at MongoDB
  • You partner with our sales team to help ensure success in accounts ranging from small startups to large enterprises (i.e customizing solutions, client presentations, etc.). We are NOT a sales team, but we work closely with sales
  • You support sales through enablement, with activities such as technical discovery, demos, trainings, proof of values, presentations, and documentation of technical decision criteria; working across a number of sales opportunities in parallel. You will take initiative in creating more opportunities for sales support
  • You translate technical concepts and patterns into business solutions for internal/external deliverables, clients, partners, and/or other teams
  • You act as a liaison, gathering feedback from the field to relay back to the Product Management team and playing an active role in MongoDB’s Go-To-Market
  • You generate/deliver content, such as white papers, blogs, webinars, thought leadership, speaking events, YouTube videos, etc. that communicates the business value of MongoDB as a leading industry solution
  • Dive deep into building foundational and technical knowledge of MongoDB’s product suite. You will have an extensive onboarding plan to guide you, but you manage your own time and prioritize it based on your own time management and current relevant projects
  • You proactively seek opportunities to support and mentor other pre-sales team members and share best practices
  • You help our team continue building processes in how we work with each other and other teams throughout MongoDB, to make ourselves as scalable and efficient as possible
As an ideal candidate, you will have
  • At least 7+ years of relevant work experience in the tech sector
  • Strong programming/software engineering skills for demo development
  • Ability and willingness to learn quickly and adapt to new industries
  • Passion and curiosity about new technologies
  • Willingness to mentor more junior team mates
  • A strong foundational knowledge of data and computer science (you will become more of an expert on the job!)
  • The ability to manage and work with multiple stakeholders effectively
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills—oral and technical writing
  • A pro-active, self-starter with the drive to learn new skills and become an expert in that field
  • The ability to travel up to 30% in normal circumstances for conferences, clients, team shadowing, team events, MongoDB events, etc
As an ideal candidate, you may also have
  • A Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in the tech sector
  • Experience in a SaaS enterprise sales environment and true client connectivity
  • Experience selling databases and/or deploying applications with any of the major cloud providers or database vendors
  • Experience with database programming and data models
  • A MongoDB Certification
  • Proficiency in more than one language
What you will learn
  • MongoDB product suite (i.e. core database server, Atlas, Atlas Search & Vector Search, Charts, tools, etc.)
  • MongoDB complementary technologies (i.e. Apache Kafka, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Modern architecture design patterns and methodologies (i.e. microservices, event-driven architectures, DevOps, cloud, etc.)
  • MongoDB’s partners’ technologies and how we collaborate
  • Sales techniques and related soft skills (i.e. presentations, demonstrations, whiteboarding, discovery, objection handling, etc.)
  • Exposure to a wide variety of markets and a broad spectrum of interesting use cases

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
