MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

Our R&D Productivity Group

MongoDB is a complex, mission-critical database server that operates in a wide range of environments. Customers rely on its ability to meet high standards for Performance, Security, Availability, and Correctness. Achieving these standards requires robust developer tooling at every layer of the stack, from the underlying storage engine to the tools supporting our Atlas cloud offering. The Developer Productivity organization plays a vital role in enabling MongoDB engineers to ship products that meet our high company standards.

Within Developer Productivity, the Last Mile team works closely with teams across the company to identify challenges and solve them in ways that delight other development teams. Our engineers collaborate with stakeholders delivering critical features, pinpoint gaps in core infrastructure, and implement solutions that benefit all development teams. This role requires a deep empathy for stakeholders, a strong understanding of business impact, and a willingness to dive into the entire breadth of our tooling. This is a unique opportunity to drive broad impact on both the business and the daily workflows of teams throughout MongoDB.

This role can be based out of our Toronto office or remotely in the Ontario region.

  • Have experience designing and building tools to be used by other developers, including web based tools, APIs, and/or command line tools

Expectations
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to understand their most pressing challenges and create solutions that address their needs
  • Develop a broad, high level understanding of core systems used to build MongoDB products, and be able to help navigate and resolve issues that span across multiple teams
  • Build tools to use across the development lifecycle to help teams work faster and ship higher quality products

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
