DEPARTMENT/PROJECT OVERVIEW  

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (BGCGSD or Clubs) CHANGES LIVES through quality programs and guidance in a safe, affordable, and fun environment. BGCGSD’s mission is to inspire and enable youth to achieve academic success, build good character and responsible citizenship, and make healthy lifestyle choices.  We have been provided a safe, fun, and positive environment at our sites with trained and dedicated professional staff. Members are involved in age-appropriate activities based upon our three priority outcomes of Academic Success, Character Development, and Healthy Lifestyles.

POSITION OVERVIEW  

Under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Human Resources, the Human Resource Generalist will carry out the daily functions of the Human Resources (H.R.) department, including recruitment, hiring/onboarding process, and interviewing staff, scheduling the new staff members for training, and entering of a high volume of employment records into our human resource information system (HRIS). The H.R. generalist will also assist with payroll, administering compensation benefits leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:                                                                                                              

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

  1. Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, C.P.R aptitude exams, and certifications.
  2. Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  3. Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  4. Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  5. Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and staff members relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex and sensitive matters/questions to appropriate senior-level H.R. staff or management.
  6. Will assist in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  7. Assist in managing workers’ compensation injury claims. File reports with insurance provider, maintain accident information, and monitor progress.
  8. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommended best practices; reviews company policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  9. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

RECRUITMENT 

  1. Identifies and implements efficient and effective recruiting methods and strategies based on the available role, industry standards, and the needs of the organization.
  2. Develops, facilitates, and implements all phases of the recruitment process.
  3. Assists with job posting and advertisement processes.
  4. Screens applications and selects qualified candidates.
  5. Schedules interviews; oversees preparation of interview questions and other hiring and selection materials.
  6. Collaborates with the other human resource staff during the offer process, identifying and recommending incentives, start dates, and other relevant details.
  7. Attends and participates in college job fairs and recruiting sessions.
  8. Assist with drafting detailed and accurate job descriptions and hiring criteria.
  9. Organizes and attends job fairs, campus events, and other networking opportunities.

 ADMINISTRATIVE

  1. Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  2. Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  3. Performs periodic audits of H.R. files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  4. Provides clerical support to the H.R. department.
  5. May assist with payroll functions including processing, answering employee questions, fixing processing errors, and distributing checks.
  6. Acts as a liaison between the organization and external benefits providers and vendors, which may include health, disability, and retirement plan providers.
  7. Conducts or assists with new hire training.
  8. Conduct Data entry into the HRIS.
  9. Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
  10. Cultivates positive relationships with staff.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

  1. Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all youth, staff, and visitors by consistently enforcing safety protocols and organizational policies.
  2. Be proactive in identifying and reporting any safety concerns or maintenance requirements to ensure a safe working environment for everyone.
  3. Participate in safety drills and contribute to ongoing risk assessment and emergency preparedness efforts.
  4. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of Club safety and wellness policies and procedures across the Club.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check
  • Maintains compliance with the organization's drug-free workplace policy
  • Valid Driver’s license and verification of insurance
  • Occasional weekends and evenings in support of fundraising events, committee meetings, trainings, and activities
  • CPR & First Aid Certification

QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Must be 18 years of age with High School diploma or G.E.D. required with some college experience or a combination of knowledge and experience. (Required)
  2. Minimum of one (1) year experience working directly in the Human Resources/Recruitment field is required.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office Suite, email, internet research, social media navigation.
  5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. (Required)
  6. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. (Required)
  9. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. (Required)
  10. Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.(Required)
  11. Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
  12. Prior related office experience preferred.
  13. C.P.R. and First Aid Certifications preferred.
  14. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  15.  Ability to create and implement sourcing strategies for recruitment for a variety of roles.
  16.  Must have flexible availability to include evenings and weekends.
