We are excited to open the HR Coordinator position to both current Blue Lakes employees and external candidates.

Position Summary

The HR Coordinator will support the day-to-day administration of Blue Lakes' human resources operations, with a strong focus on payroll, employee benefits, unemployment, and workers’ compensation administration.

This position requires hands-on experience in payroll and benefits administration, as well as experience handling Michigan and Ohio unemployment matters and workers’ compensation. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, responsive, and comfortable handling confidential employee information.

Key ResponsibilitiesPayroll

  • Assist with weekly payroll processing and ensure accurate and timely employee pay.
  • Review timekeeping records, PTO, sick time, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and other payroll-related items.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation.
  • Communicate with employees and payroll providers regarding payroll questions and issues.

Benefits

  • Administer employee benefit enrollments, changes, qualifying life events, and terminations.
  • Assist employees with benefit questions and provide guidance regarding available benefits.
  • Maintain accurate benefits records.
  • Coordinate with benefit providers.
  • Assist with annual open enrollment and implementation of new benefit programs.

Unemployment

  • Manage unemployment claims and correspondence for Michigan and Ohio.
  • Prepare and submit required documentation and responses.
  • Track unemployment claims and deadlines through resolution.
  • Maintain accurate unemployment records.
  • Communicate with state agencies and other involved parties as needed.

Workers’ Compensation

  • Coordinate workers’ compensation claims and related documentation.
  • Assist employees with the workers’ compensation process.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers and other applicable parties.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow up on outstanding claims and documentation.

General HR Support

  • Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding.
  • Maintain confidential personnel records and HR documentation.
  • Assist with employee relations, performance management, and disciplinary documentation.
  • Support leave administration, including FMLA and other applicable leaves.
  • Assist with HR compliance and required employment documentation.
  • Respond to employee HR questions and provide appropriate guidance or resources.
  • Assist with HR projects, audits, and process improvements.
  • Support other HR functions and responsibilities as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with payroll administration is required.
  • Experience administering employee benefits is required.
  • Experience handling Michigan and Ohio unemployment claims/processes is required.
  • Experience with workers’ compensation administration is required.
  • Previous experience in Human Resources, payroll, benefits, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with HR, payroll, and benefits systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state employment requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of HR experience.
  • Experience supporting employees across multiple locations.
  • Experience working in a healthcare, behavioral health, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll platforms.
  • Familiarity with FMLA, leave administration, and employee relations.
