The HR Leader at Layup Parts will drive the people strategy, manage HR services, ensure employee engagement, and maintain company culture in a fast-paced startup environment.

About the Role
We’re looking for an HR leader who is a significant contributor to the people strategy at Layup, including: attracting and retaining top level talent, implementing foundational company policy and programs, maintaining company culture, and ensuring the health, wellness, and engagement of our employees. You will be responsible for supporting a diverse workforce from software engineers to production technicians.
As an early stage startup, we’re looking for someone who can further the strategic while addressing the tactical. You will be responsible for the full scope of all HR services; you are a person who can maintain day-to-day operations while developing programs and strategies for six months, 1 year, or 3 years in the future. What you will do
- Responsible for all employee related activities including: recruiting, hiring, employee relations, etc
- Responsible for employee payroll and hourly time approvals
- Responsible for company-wide benefits including healthcare, life insurance, and disability insurance
- Responsible for any workers’ compensation claims or administration as needed
- Develop and implement Company handbook and policies with an understanding of any necessary federal or California compliance requirements
- Develop and implement employee training programs including basic safety and quality trainings. Develop and maintain company wide training matrix
- Develop and implement performance management cycles, formalized feedback, and total compensation adjustments
- Develop strategies to attract and retain top level talent in engineering, software, and manufacturing. Lead, or at minimum assist in employee recruiting efforts
- Establish recruiting pipeline to local universities through development of formalized internship / recruiting program and develop Layup as a consistent local presence
- Support company wide communications efforts to maintain company transparency and employee understanding of company goals and mission
- Keep us fun! Plan and implement employee appreciation events, buy gifts, company swag, etc
Required

- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Strong understanding of employment regulation requirements with ability to translate these into scalable policies appropriate for a startup of our size.
- Experience in startups or small teams in fast-paced and quickly changing environments. Experience with little to no established systems or structure.
- Excellent written, verbal, and group communication skills.
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills; addresses all work with sense of urgency. Enjoys working on many different tasks in one day
- Passionate about understanding what drives and maintains company culture; fundamentally – what makes a great work environment?
- Position may require extended hours or weekend work
Preferred
- Familiarity with ITAR regulation or experience in a workplace where ITAR policies are implemented.
- Familiarity with basic environmental health and safety requirements and can support in the implementation of safety programs
- Excited by the prospect of 2x or 3x headcount growth, with the multi-facility and multi-state growth
- Experience with internal and external company communications.
- Bilingual English / Spanish
Actual base salary will be based on several factors including but not limited to candidates relevant education, experience, knowledge and skill in the core subject matter of the position as well as relevant peripheral qualifications.
