The Role
Square serves millions of sellers, and every one of them begins their relationship with us through a trust decision. Trust is foundational to Square: we protect sellers and the business from bad actors while enabling companies of all sizes to grow with confidence.
As Product Lead, Trust, you'll set the Square-wide strategy for building and maintaining seller trust, managing the roadmap across Risk and Identity. You'll navigate the space's central tensions - access vs. protection, growth vs. fraud prevention - and be accountable for Risk Loss Rate, Seller Trust, and ecosystem health.
This is a player-coach role: you'll own the most ambiguous, highest-stakes Trust bets as a hands-on DRI while coaching a small group of senior PMs - developing their craft and judgment.
You Will
  • Bring a Square-wide perspective on Trust for strategic planning, ensuring trust considerations are embedded across all seller-facing products and experiences.
  • Lead the product organization across multiple product areas including Identity Verification, Access, Disputes, and Controls.
  • Serve as hands-on DRI on the hardest Trust problems, setting the gold standard for craft, while coaching senior PMs to raise their capability and taste.
  • Champion the seller experience: make verification, limits, and remediation fair and fast for legitimate sellers, and fix blind spots that falsely decline good businesses.
  • Drive accountability for Risk Loss Rate, Seller Trust metrics, Access expansion for trusted sellers, and ecosystem health across all of Square's products.
  • Operate AI-native: set the vision for how AI reshapes Trust products and the team's own work.
  • Engage regulators, compliance bodies, and identity-verification partners, shaping the regulatory landscape into Product and GTM strategy
  • Drive execution across multiple functions and organizations including Product, Engineering, Compliance, Legal, and Operations to deliver on Trust and Safety initiatives.

You Have
  • 8+ years of product management, including several leading and coaching senior product talent in complex or regulated domains.
  • A proven player-coach orientation. You ship your own work at senior scope while leveling up other PMs as people, not managing their tasks.
  • Track record of originating strategy in ambiguous space and building platform/infrastructure products.
  • Exceptional narrative skills. You align executives, regulators, and teams around a trust strategy.
  • Direct experience with trust & safety, risk, identity, or compliance products
  • Experience managing regulatory requirements and compliance-driven product development

Nice to Haves
  • Experience with payments or fintech products
  • Background in fraud prevention, identity verification, or KYC/AML
  • Track record with both internal tooling and customer-facing product development
  • Familiarity with ML/AI-powered risk and fraud detection systems
  • Experience with identity verification providers (Veriff, Onfido, Persona, Jumio)
  • Knowledge of global regulatory frameworks (FATF, AMLD, GDPR, CFPB)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
