  • Design Excellence: Establish and uphold a high standard of design quality across all touchpoints, ensuring that our products are intuitive, beautiful, and usable.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with product management, engineering, marketing, and executive leadership to ensure that design is integrated into the product development process and contributes to the company's strategic objectives.
  • User-Centered Design: Champion a user-centered approach by integrating user research, data insights, and feedback into the design process, ensuring our products meet the evolving needs of our users. Oversee a user experience research team to uncover key insights and ensure our design solutions solve key problems and delight our consumers.
  • Scalability and Efficiency: Develop scalable design systems, processes, and best practices to enhance team efficiency and consistency across products.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the design advocate in key leadership meetings, articulating the value of design to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Innovation and Trends: Stay current on design trends and emerging technologies to continuously push the boundaries of what’s possible and innovate within the space.

What you have:

  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating design leadership, strategy, and execution. Previous experience in a similar role (VP/Director of Design, Head of Design) within a fast-growing, product-driven organization.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and inspire a diverse team of designers, motivating them to produce their best work.
  • Collaboration: Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, product management, and leadership to deliver high-quality product experiences.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic acumen, able to balance the big picture with the details of product design execution.
  • Design Systems: Expertise in creating, evolving, and maintaining scalable design systems that align with business goals.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate the value of design and advocate for user-centric solutions at all levels of the organization.
  • Creative Problem-Solving: Ability to navigate complex design challenges with creativity, leading the team to develop innovative, user-focused solutions.
  • Business Acumen: A deep understanding of how design impacts the business and contributes to broader company objectives.

What makes you stand out:

  • Experience leading design within a consumer tech, SaaS, or B2B environment.
  • Expertise with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite) and proficiency with prototyping and user testing tools.
  • A background in human-centered design, UX/UI design, or product design.
  • Experience scaling design teams and processes in a high-growth environment.
  • In particular, a background working with mobile games or video game design would be of interest, but not a firm requirement.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
