Welcome to Fi.

We’re a passionate team from Square, Google, Oura, Peloton, Uber, and more working to transform the human-pet relationship. Our mission? Develop cutting-edge technology to revolutionize what it means to be a pet parent. The pet industry remains firmly stuck in the past and we are here to change that. Fi is leveraging our team's talent and expertise to improve the lives of millions of pets in the U.S. Real-time location tracking, activity, sleep and behavior monitoring – and that's just the beginning.

The most exciting aspect of our work? Bridging the communication gap between pets and humans. Imagine a world where everyone knows how their pet feels in real time and how to keep their best friend in good shape. That's the future we're building at Fi.

If you're someone who thrives in innovative, collaborative work environments and feels strongly about helping pets live longer, better lives, Fi could be the perfect fit. Join us in our pursuit of the “impossible,” or as we call it here “let me find a way,” to redefine the future of pet ownership together.

Fi is looking for a Head of Data!
Fi is looking for a Head of Data to own our data platform end to end. You'll model our device, membership, and operational data into the pipelines and warehouse layers the company runs on, lead a team of four analysts, and be the numbers person Finance and Product turn to for board reporting, forecasting, and experiment reads. This is a hands-on role for someone who's built a data function before and wants to do it again, this time with real leverage.

What You'll Do:

  • Own Fi's data platform and analytics roadmap: model our device, membership, and operational data into pipelines and warehouse layers the whole company can build on
  • Design and maintain event-driven, incremental pipelines over raw device telemetry — turning millions of collar signals into usable product and fleet data models
  • Manage, coach, and grow a team of four analysts; run their pipeline of work, unblock them technically, and raise the bar on rigor and documentation
  • Partner with Finance on subscription and unit economics: membership forecasting, retention and LTV modeling, hardware margin, and the reporting our board and investors see
  • Partner with Product and Hardware on activation, engagement, and device performance analytics — including the sensor and firmware data behind features customers actually feel
  • Build self-serve BI that stakeholders genuinely use, rather than a dashboard graveyard
  • Design and read experiments on pricing, onboarding, and retention, and hold the org to honest interpretation of results
  • Shift the data team from a ticket-taking service function into a strategic partner embedded in the business

What You'll Bring:

  • 7+ years in analytics, business intelligence, data engineering, or analytics engineering, including time as the person who built or substantially rebuilt a data function
  • Experience leading analysts — formally or as a player-coach — with a real point of view on how to develop them
  • Deep SQL, plus hands-on work in a modern warehouse and orchestration stack (Databricks, Snowflake, Spark, Airflow, dbt or similar)
  • Fluency in dimensional and event-driven modeling, and clear opinions on ELT tradeoffs, incremental builds, and cost control
  • Strong BI craft in Looker, Tableau, Mode, or equivalent — you build for the stakeholder, not the demo
  • Comfort partnering with Finance on models that carry real consequences: forecasts, diligence materials, margin analysis
  • Ability to work in ambiguity at Series B scale, where you'll sometimes be the entire data team for a given problem

Why You'll Love Us:

  • Time to Recharge: Enjoy flexible PTO to take the breaks you need.
  • Top-Notch Health Coverage: We’ve got your back (and teeth and eyes) with full medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Wellness Perks: Free access to One Medical, Kindbody, and Talkspace to keep you feeling your best.
  • Dog-Friendly Office: Bring your pup to work — they’re part of the team, too.
  • Give Back to the Pups: Make tails wag with a $500 annual donation to a dog charity of your choice through our BarkBack Program.
  • Free Fi Membership: Your furry best friend(s) get all the benefits of a Fi collar, on us!
  • Love for Friends + Family: Share the Fi magic with loved ones through our gifting program.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $150,000–$300,000. Actual compensation will vary based on multiple factors, including skills, experience, market conditions, and role scope, which may evolve during the hiring process. As a fast-growing Series B startup, Fi evaluates compensation opportunistically to align with the right candidate. This role is also eligible for equity compensation.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
