The Mission

At GRAM, we believe the next great leap for humanity will be physical, not digital. What AGI is to bits, Self-Replication (SR) is to atoms. As an SR research and deployment company, our mission is to make humanity galactic by enabling physical exponential growth. To achieve this, we are conducting foundational research across general-purpose robotics, artificial intelligence, biology, and materials science to enable SR within our lifetimes.

Our first step is to challenge the consensus that robots should look like us. We believe true progress comes from optimizing for function over form. We are creating a new embodiment for intelligence, designed from first principles to build the future physical economy, on and off-world.

The Role

At GRAM, we believe that operational excellence is a core strategic advantage. Our ability to execute on an ambitious, multi-decade mission depends on a world-class foundation of operational and business systems. This role is for the leaders who build the machine that builds the machine, creating an environment where our scientists and engineers can do their best work.

You are a builder of companies, not just products. You will be responsible for creating the scalable, efficient, and robust systems that enable our team to move faster and achieve more. This is an opportunity to design a company's operating system from first principles, ensuring that our physical lab, our supply chain, and our business functions are as thoughtfully engineered as our robots.

This is not a traditional finance position. It is the role of the lead architect of the economic and capital framework that will underpin our long-term industrial growth. The Head of Capital will operate at the intersection of international finance, industrial strategy, and technology, with the primary mandate to build a resilient and sophisticated capital engine worthy of our generational ambition.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead the company's comprehensive capital strategy, building a diverse portfolio of financial instruments that extends beyond traditional venture capital to include international project finance, non-dilutive government R&D contracts, and strategic partnerships.
  • Lead the financial modeling and strategic economic planning for GRAM's most ambitious future projects, including our "GAIA" industrial intelligence platform and the novel unit economics of self-replicating systems.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships at the highest levels with strategic capital partners, including sovereign wealth funds, international development banks, and the private capital arms of global industrial conglomerates.
  • Serve as a key strategic partner to the CEO, translating our technical roadmap and expansion goals into a coherent, multi-decade financial architecture.
About You

You are a systems builder who views complex financial and legal structures as powerful tools for enabling world-changing technology. You operate from first principles and are driven to create new models where existing ones are insufficient. You find a well-structured, multi-billion dollar project finance term sheet as inspiring as a blueprint for a starship, because you understand they are ultimately the same thing: instruments for building the future. Your ambition is measured not in quarterly returns, but in your desire to build an institution of historic and lasting significance.

Basic Qualifications:
  • A decade or more of experience operating at the highest levels of project finance, corporate strategy, international law, or private equity.
  • A proven track record of structuring and executing novel, complex, multi-billion-dollar deals (e.g., infrastructure projects, joint ventures, sovereign investments).
  • A deep, intuitive understanding of global capital markets and the mechanics of industrial economics.
  • The ability to command respect and build trusted relationships with the world's leading financial and industrial decision-makers.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience building a new financial or corporate structure from zero to significant scale.
  • A history of negotiating directly with state-level actors or sovereign entities.
  • A fundamental understanding of how technology and geopolitical trends intersect to create new economic opportunities.
  • The intellectual horsepower to grasp the second and third-order economic effects of foundational technologies like automation and self-replication.

Location

This is an on-site role at our research lab in El Segundo, California. We offer significant relocation assistance for exceptional candidates.

Interview Process

After submitting your application, we review your portfolio and any exceptional work you've shipped. If your application demonstrates the caliber we seek, you'll enter our interview process, which is designed for speed and substance. We aim to complete it within one week from start to finish.

Compensation

Your total compensation reflects both the significance of early-stage equity and competitive market rates. The following is the general framework for all roles at GRAM.
  • Company-Wide Base Salary Range: $75,000 - $300,000 USD, calibrated to your impact potential
  • Equity: Substantial ownership stake befitting founding team members
  • Benefits: Health, dental, and vision coverage; all meals are paid for; relocation assistance

GRAM is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate solely on capability and drive.

Why Join?

We are an early, focused team of scientists and engineers building the system that builds itself. GRAM is funded by leading investors and long-term visionaries. We operate without bureaucracy. Ownership and leadership flow to those who demonstrate exceptional capability, and every team member works directly on our core technology. We are based in El Segundo, the heart of America's industrial future, focused on solving one of the most important problems of our time.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
