As a Ground Software Intern, your core responsibility will be to write software that enables efficient command, telemetry, and control of spacecraft. You will collaborate closely with flight software engineers, GNC, and mission operators, to automate operations workflows, build intuitive UIs, and develop reliable backend services. 

*This internship is 12 weeks long from May/June to August/September of 2027.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement full-stack web applications using modern frameworks 
  • Build software tools and APIs to support mission automation, ground testing, and telemetry processing 
  • Write robust, maintainable, and tested code that operators and engineers rely on during critical mission phases 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field 
  • Experience building and shipping software projects using Python and/or JavaScript (React or Vue.js preferred) 
  • Ability to understand complex system interactions and communicate technical tradeoffs effectively 

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience with backend frameworks (e.g. FastAPI, Flask, Django) and RESTful API design  
  • Familiarity with frontend component libraries and state management (e.g., Vue.js, React) 
  • Exposure to telemetry, commanding, or satellite operations concepts 
  • Experience developing internal tools or dashboards for hardware or operational teams 
  • Comfort working in a Linux environment and using version control (Git) and testing frameworks 
Additional Requirements: 
  • Willing and able to work on-site in Redondo Beach, CA, for the duration of the internship 
  • This position may require overtime hours; interns are eligible for overtime pay.

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
