Sway is a voting group platform that is taking the 2026 midterms by storm. We’re admired by well-known civic orgs, influencers, candidations/politicians, and voters alike. Voting group leaders across the country and ideological spectrum use Sway to organize their communities, share ballot recommendations, and — most importantly — win elections. Our tight-knit team is looking to add an additional full-stack engineer to make sure we meet the moment.

How we work together:

Our engineering team is 3 FT and 3 senior contractors. We’re high agency and ownership. We use every AI tool under the sun, and we all work across the stack. Speaking of our stack, we’re a bit spoiled: a React-based frontend built with Next.js, a real-time GraphQL API layer powered by Hasura (no boilerplate!), and backend services written in Typescript.

We work in-person in SF, love team lunches, and are still happy to see each other on the weekend. We host civic-oriented events in our community. We have our power users on speed dial. We talk politics, and often do not agree. At the end of the day, we know that our work is critical, and that there are few cooler problem spaces to be working in right now. We strive to balance that gravity with lightness every day.

Who you are:

We’re looking for someone who does it all, and well, but with a special emphasis on product-mindedness and/or a love of messy (but very interesting) data. You’ve built with many of the tools in our stack. You’re excited about and capable of using cutting edge tools to your advantage. You ship fast and pick things up on the fly. Maybe you’ve built a consumer product from scratch or started something yourself.

Politics would be better with you involved.

Benefits:

Competitive comp, flexible PTO, full benefits, and ground-floor equity in a company trying to reinvent political power.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
