This is a remote position.

We are seeking a highly capable Full-Stack Software Engineer with experience in frontend development, backend engineering, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps.

You will help design, build, deploy, and operate production systems supporting real-time AI calling workflows. This is a hands-on role for someone comfortable moving across the stack, taking ownership of features from initial design through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvement.
The ideal candidate has strong software-engineering fundamentals, understands modern web and cloud architecture, and is comfortable working in an early-stage startup where priorities evolve quickly.

Responsibilities

Frontend Development

  • Build responsive, intuitive, and production-quality web applications.
  • Translate product designs and user workflows into reusable frontend components.
  • Develop dashboards for users, administrators, organizations, subscriptions, tasks, call history, and account management.
  • Integrate frontend applications with REST APIs, WebSockets, and real-time backend services.
  • Implement authentication, authorization, role-based access, and secure session management.
  • Improve application performance, accessibility, usability, and responsiveness across devices.
  • Collaborate with designers and product stakeholders to refine user experiences.
  • Write maintainable, well-tested frontend code.

Backend Development

  • Design, build, and maintain backend services using Python and Django or comparable frameworks.
  • Develop secure and scalable REST APIs and real-time service integrations.
  • Build systems for workflow orchestration, task execution, call management, user management, billing, subscriptions, and organizational administration.
  • Integrate telephony, speech recognition, text-to-speech, AI models, payment systems, email services, and other third-party APIs.
  • Design and optimize PostgreSQL database schemas, queries, migrations, and data-access patterns.
  • Build asynchronous and background-processing systems using technologies such as Celery, Redis, queues, and event-driven services.
  • Implement logging, audit trails, permissions, data protection, and operational controls.
  • Improve the performance, scalability, reliability, and fault tolerance of backend services.
  • Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.

DevOps and Cloud Infrastructure

  • Build and maintain reliable development, staging, and production environments.
  • Containerize applications and services using Docker.
  • Design and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, builds, deployments, and rollbacks.
  • Deploy and operate services on AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Cloudflare, or comparable cloud platforms.
  • Configure cloud networking, DNS, SSL certificates, load balancing, secrets, storage, databases, and access controls.
  • Implement infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
  • Establish application monitoring, centralized logging, alerting, error tracking, and performance observability.
  • Improve system availability, deployment safety, disaster recovery, backup procedures, and incident response.
  • Identify infrastructure bottlenecks and optimize cloud performance and cost.
  • Apply security best practices across applications, infrastructure, dependencies, and deployment pipelines.

Engineering Ownership

  • Own features throughout their complete lifecycle: architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Participate in architectural decisions and technical planning.
  • Investigate production issues and implement durable solutions rather than temporary fixes.
  • Review code and help establish engineering standards and documentation.
  • Work closely with product, design, AI, and business teams.
  • Communicate progress, technical tradeoffs, risks, and dependencies clearly.
  • Help improve development processes as the engineering organization grows.

Requirements
  • Strong professional experience in full-stack software development.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and experience with Django, Django REST Framework, FastAPI, Flask, or a comparable backend framework.
  • Strong experience with JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Experience with React, Next.js, Vue, Angular, or another modern frontend framework.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, client-server architecture, authentication, authorization, and secure API design.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database.
  • Experience with background jobs, asynchronous processing, message queues, or event-driven systems.
  • Practical experience with Docker and cloud-based application deployment.
  • Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Linux, networking, DNS, HTTPS, cloud security, and production troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of software architecture, testing, version control, and code-review practices.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, testable, and well-documented code.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership in a fast-moving startup environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Celery, Redis, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with WebSockets, streaming services, or real-time applications.
  • Experience with telephony platforms such as Twilio, Telnyx, Cisco, Zoom Phone, or SIP-based systems.
  • Experience integrating ASR, TTS, LLM, AI-agent, or machine-learning services.
  • Experience with Kubernetes or managed container-orchestration platforms.
  • Experience with Terraform or another infrastructure-as-code framework.
  • Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Cloudflare, or NVIDIA infrastructure.
  • Experience implementing monitoring with tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Sentry, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience with security-sensitive, healthcare, financial, telecommunications, or regulated applications.
  • Familiarity with privacy, auditability, encryption, secure credential management, and role-based access control.
  • Experience building SaaS products with organization management, subscriptions, billing, permissions, and administrative dashboards.
  • Previous experience in an early-stage startup.
Technology Environment
Our technology environment may include:
  • Python, Django, and Django REST Framework
  • TypeScript, React, and Next.js
  • PostgreSQL, Redis, and Celery
  • REST APIs, WebSockets, and event-driven services
  • Docker and cloud-based infrastructure
  • GitHub Actions or comparable CI/CD platforms
  • AWS, Google Cloud, Cloudflare, NVIDIA, and third-party AI services
  • Telephony, ASR, TTS, and real-time AI integrations
  • Monitoring, logging, alerting, and infrastructure-as-code tools

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
