As a Full-Stack Engineer at Afresh, you'll develop applications to enhance grocery store operations and optimize the fresh food supply chain, while collaborating with product teams and driving new feature development.
The summary above was generated by AI

Afresh, the AI platform for grocery, began by tackling the most complex problem in the industry: fresh, and has evolved into the core AI platform for grocers.

By leveraging proprietary AI designed for high-volatility environments, we empower partners like Albertsons, Meijer, and Wakefern to drive smarter decisions across their entire enterprise.

Following record-breaking 70% revenue growth in 2025, we have scaled to 6 enterprise-grade solutions, with solutions live in over 10% of the U.S. grocery market. Our platform now orchestrates billions of decisions from the store floor to the distribution center and prevented over 200 million pounds of food waste last year alone.

If you're looking for a role where your work directly translates into massive scale and social good, and you want to be part of the team that defines how the world eats, there is no better time to join us.

About the Role

As a member of the Production Planning team, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between complex AI insights and real-world store operations. You won't just be moving pixels; you’ll be building the tools that store associates use to manage the life cycle of fresh food. This is a high-impact position where your work directly stabilizes the food supply chain for thousands of communities.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and ship high-quality applications to optimize in-store operations and decision-making.
  • Support thousands of grocery stores on their critical fresh food supply chains across the US.
  • Partner with product managers, designers, and our users to deliver a great product experience.
  • Participate in and provide meaningful feedback about major design choices.
  • Build out our analytics and monitoring/observability to understand our system behavior and make informed decisions.
  • Ensure the quality of our software via automated tests.
  • Design and build UIs, APIs, and solutions that are reusable and extensible.
  • Work alongside machine learning specialists to drive new feature development.
  • Readiness to step into a mentorship role to guide junior engineers and contribute to the team's growth.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 2+ years of full-stack web development experience, with a proven track record of building and maintaining production-level APIs and applications.
  • Professional-level proficiency in TypeScript (or JavaScript)
  • Experience building & maintaining production-level APIs and applications
  • Collaborative attitude while also being highly self-directed
  • You are energized by "hard problems"—the kind where logic, data, and user experience intersect to solve global waste issues.
  • You thrive in fast-paced startup environments. You are highly self-directed but value a deeply collaborative team culture.

Nice to Have

  • Frontend: React
  • Backend/Data: Python, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, DBT, or Databricks.

The following represents attributes our ideal candidate possesses. We encourage all highly qualified candidates to apply, even if they do not fulfill all the listed criteria.

This position is not eligible for company sponsorship.

Salary Range in U.S.: $130,000-$195,000

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
