Description

Crowd Favorite, a leading enterprise Open Source agency, is looking for an experienced front-end developer to join our team, specializing in modern CSS architecture, native WordPress block development, and component-based front-end solutions. We are looking for someone who excels at writing clean code, understands the structure behind technical decisions, is well-versed at troubleshooting and investigating issues, and can clearly communicate in both technical and non-technical language. As a member of Crowd Favorite, you'll leverage your skills to both build new features and maintain high-performing content management platforms for enterprise clients, with a focus on stability and performance while growing your technical capabilities. You'll be building responsive, accessible user interfaces using modern CSS techniques, creating custom WordPress Gutenberg blocks and full-site-editing features, and developing Javascript components that integrate seamlessly with PHP backends.

This is a fully remote position available worldwide, requiring availability during US Pacific Time business hours (9 AM - 6 PM PST/PDT). We're looking for a creative problem-solving developer who excels at translating designs into pixel-perfect, performant user experiences.

What You'll Be Working On
  • Building custom WordPress blocks and modern solutions using the latest features for theme.json and full-site-editing for large-scale editing workflow needs
  • Creating responsive, accessible front-end experiences using modern CSS Grid, Flexbox, and custom properties
  • Developing reusable components and component libraries
  • Integrating React or Vue front-ends with WordPress and Laravel APIs for custom front-end experiences
  • Implementing complex CSS animations and micro-interactions
  • Converting design systems into maintainable CSS architectures
  • Building automated testing features to document experiences across multiple types of devices
Requirements
Code Portfolio Requirements

Applications without these will not be reviewed. This is a development position, requiring solid evidence of your ability to build effective code and you should be ready to discuss your code, implementation decisions, and testing approaches.

  • GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket link showing custom WordPress blocks you've built
  • Live site examples demonstrating advanced CSS techniques (Grid, custom properties, etc.)
  • Components or custom blocks you've developed
Required Experience
  • 2-3+ years of advanced CSS development (Grid, Flexbox, custom properties, container queries)
  • 2+ years of WordPress theme and block development, including custom post types and fields
  • 2+ years of React or Vue component development, particularly interfacing with REST APIs
  • 2+ years creating and maintaining design systems or component libraries
  • Demonstrable experience with CSS methodologies (BEM, utility-first, CSS-in-JS, etc.)
  • Strong portfolio showing responsive, cross-browser compatible work
  • Experience with build tools like Webpack, Vite, or similar bundlers
  • Familiarity with PHP and the particulars for integrated work with WordPress requirements as well as Laravel front-end needs
  • Knowledge of PSR-4 autoloading and PHP namespace conventions for organized, maintainable WordPress and Laravel codebases
  • Writing effective automated tests (unit, integration, and functional) to ensure code reliability and facilitate confident deployments across complex projects
  • Accessibility expertise including WCAG 2.1 AA compliance
  • Git workflow proficiency in collaborative team environments
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with CSS preprocessors (Sass/SCSS) and PostCSS
  • WordPress plugin development and customization
  • Web component creation (lit-html, Stencil, or vanilla)
  • Animation libraries (Framer Motion, GSAP, etc.)
  • Performance optimization and Core Web Vitals improvement
  • Headless WordPress implementations
Communication & Collaboration
  • B2 level of spoken and written English language proficiency
  • Comfortable working productively with a distributed team
  • Able to communicate technical decisions clearly to clients and stakeholders
  • Experience translating design requirements into development specifications
  • Strong written communication for code documentation and project updates

We know great developers come from various backgrounds. If you're comfortable with most of what we've described but don't check every box, we encourage you to apply. We value potential and eagerness to learn as much as existing expertise.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
