Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Our Driver may be autonomous, but Waymo's finances are steered by experts like you. The Finance and Accounting group manages all aspects of our finances and serves as trusted advisors for all our strategic and enterprise endeavors. Along with managing compilation of our financial statements, looking after our cash and overseeing compliance, we partner closely with the business in overseeing company wide resource allocation, developing cutting edge compensation initiatives and generating detailed financial analyses to drive the business forward. We also develop advanced capital strategies to support the company's short- and long-term future.

In this hybrid role, you will report to the Head of Business Finance.

You will:

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual planning cycles for Tech teams, investigating budget gaps and proactive risk mitigation strategies
  • Partner with Tech teams to achieve cost benchmarks, managing spend and helping teams make trade-offs to optimize financial targets
  • Own end-to-end financial analysis for Tech projects, implementing processes to streamline analysis and ensure validated financials before executive review
  • Help shape Tech strategy and optimize spend to ensure individual transactions serve the broader long-term roadmap
  • Act as the finance liaison for the "gate" approval process, ensuring material reviews and buy-ins are finalized at each team level
  • Orchestrate the internal chain of command by preparing strategic pre-read materials and deal reviews to move projects toward final executive sign-off.

You have:

  • BA/BS or equivalent degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or a related field
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in Finance FP&A, management consulting, or corporate strategy
  • Expert-level proficiency in financial modeling with the ability to distill complex data into a clear story for decision-making
  • A proven track record of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and form strong relationships at the executive level
  • A self-starter mindset with a bias toward action and the ability to navigate an unstructured, fast-paced environment

We prefer:

  • MBA, CPA, or experience in investment banking, strategy consulting, or Big 4 accounting
  • Industry background in Automotive, Contract Manufacturing, or high-growth Technology sectors
  • Deep understanding of leading-edge hardware and software technologies
  • Exceptional skills in financial systems and productivity tools (e.g., MS Excel, SQL, SAP, and Google Workspace)
  • Experience executing at scale with an emphasis on translating financial insights into operational recommendations

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
