The role sits in Finance and works daily with Billing Operations, Accounting, and the department heads. Beyond executing the billing calendar, the analyst builds and maintains the SQL/Python queries, Databricks workflows, validation controls, and Power BI dashboards that keep billing accurate, auditable, and repeatable, and contributes to month-end journal entries, recurring revenue reporting, the annual audit, and the budget and forecast process. It is a hands-on role for a detail-oriented analyst with strong SQL and advanced Excel skills, and a working knowledge of billing and revenue recognition.

The Financial & Billing Analyst is a full-time, remote, exempt position and reports to the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Use database queries and analytical tools to perform ad hoc analysis, investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, support customer invoice disputes and audit requests, analyze revenue and product usage, and produce operational and financial reports.
  • Write and maintain SQL/Python queries, views, and Databricks notebooks to analyze product usage, transactions, customer data, and monthly billing volumes by product and customer.
  • Build and schedule Databricks SQL/Python workflows that transform raw usage and transactional data into invoice-ready billing outputs aligned with the monthly billing calendar.
  • Develop automated data-quality and billing validation controls, including duplicate detection, missing-account checks, period-over-period variance analysis, contract and pricing validation, and exception reporting.
  • Maintain billing reference and mapping data, including pricing tiers, product codes, customer hierarchies, contract effective dates, and other inputs used in billing calculations.
  • Develop and maintain billing dashboards and operational reporting in Databricks and Power BI to support billing execution, reconciliation, forecasting, and revenue analysis.
  • Document SQL logic, billing calculations, data definitions, dependencies, controls, and operational runbooks to ensure processes are repeatable, supportable, and audit-ready.
  • Identify and implement data, automation, reporting, and process improvements across billing, budgeting, reconciliation, and financial close activities.

Month-End Close & Reporting:

  • Reconcile billed revenue to the ERP (Dynamics GP) and to Salesforce contract data each month; investigate and clear variances before close.
  • Prepare revenue, deferred revenue, and accrual journal entries and supporting schedules for Accounting review.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
