The Opportunity

Crown has an opportunity for a hands-on, results-driven Controller who can support the company’s rapid growth. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will be responsible for developing Crown’s accounting function, the control environment, SEC and internal reporting, and building a team in line with the company’s needs. He/She will ensure the integrity of the financial operating system and compliance with regulations and best practices.

This position provides a rare and unique opportunity to be an early hire in a growing business with immense potential. The Controller is a critical hire with many opportunities for growth and development. The successful candidate will be a strategic, hands-on leader who will be able to scale with the company and take on larger responsibilities over time.

What You Will Do

  • Partner with CFO on the insourcing of Crown’s Accounting function, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, employee stock plan, and financial reporting
  • Implement and manage the monthly close process, plan and review journal entries, reconciliations, and internal/external reporting
  • Manage daily accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, internal controls, external audits, and cash
  • Develop, document, implement, and continually monitor policies and procedures to ensure GAAP-compliant accounting/reporting and appropriate internal controls to mitigate organizational risk
  • Oversee the internal control environment, including safeguarding of assets, development of effective segregation of duties, and proper recording of all transactions to minimize fraud
  • Manage the preparation of consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules; oversee external audit and ensure that all SEC filings (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) are complete, accurate, and timely
  • Create reporting that supports executive decision-making and investor relations
  • Support all forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning processes through the provision of historical financials, analytics, and opinions
  • Proactively stay up to date with all new accounting pronouncements, proper treatment of new revenue sources, and any other developments in the compliance space that could impact Crown
  • Manage and mentor accounting team members

Your Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Finance or Accounting with an active CPA license
  • 10+ years of progressive Accounting experience, preferably in a publicly traded company; public accounting and startup experience are highly desired
  • Prior Controller experience at a growth stage company
  • Strong current knowledge of GAAP and SEC reporting rules and regulations
  • Experience with ownership and end-to-end SEC reporting and earnings cycle, including preparation of financial statements and disclosures
  • Proven track record of success with establishing, managing, and evolving accounting policies and procedures
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly; flexibility to thrive in a constantly changing, high-growth company
  • High-energy, resilient, and adaptable individual who can problem-solve and operate independently
  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership
  • Previous experience directly overseeing the implementation or replacement of an ERP system a plus
  • Exude drive and enthusiasm for self-development and nurturing of team members
