About the Role

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for our company’s accounting functions and requires a highly motivated, "roll-up your sleeves" professional. The primary responsibility will focus on managing the recording, reconcilement, reporting and analysis of the company’s financial results and financial controls, with oversight of the financial closing process, maintenance of accounting records, implementation of internal controls and process improvements, and configuration of team digital tools.

The role requires advanced technical proficiency in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as the translation of those concepts to Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and Insurance Law. This is a very hands-on role and one where, in addition to standard daily tasks, there will be special projects to assist with or manage.

What You'll Do 

  • Manage all aspects of accounting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and SAP
  • Creation and implementation of internal controls
  • Ownership over the setup of a structured and timely monthly financial close process
  • Preparation and/or review of monthly journal entries and supporting reconciliations
  • Manage/prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and support the Regulatory Reporting and Compliance functions
  • Provide support during annual tax compliance and external audit activities
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency to effectively research and document accounting policy and guidance related to business operations and transactions on behalf of the company
  • Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of the Company's financial information
  • Operate in detail-oriented and fact-based style; apply Best Practices where needed
  • Ability to lead and manage special projects as needed, including designing, and implementing process improvement initiatives across the department


What You'll Bring 

  • 8+ years’ experience as an Accounting Manager in the insurtech space
  • Four (4) year degree required, Accounting or Finance preferred
  • CPA required. MBA preferred
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and with minimal supervision
  • Enthusiasm and positive attitude
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to function effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to demonstrate attention to details
  • Team player who can effectively interact with management and collaborate with other departments in the organization
  • Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP. Understanding of NAIC Statutory accounting preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel and familiarity with various ERP systems and reporting functionalities
