Role Overview

The Director of Learning & Organizational Change Management Consulting Services is a senior practice operations leader responsible for translating Learning & OCM strategy into scalable delivery execution. This role provides the operational leadership layer needed to support practice growth, strengthen delivery governance, improve consultant oversight, and reduce reliance on the VP for day-to-day operational management.

Leadership Scope & Span of Control
Target Leadership Model
  • Directly leads a team of approximately 6-10 direct or matrixed reports, including Managers, Senior Consultants, engagement leads, and practice operations contributors.
  • Provides leadership oversight for Managers who each supervise approximately 6-10 consultants, supporting a scalable structure for continued growth.
  • Partners with the VP to build the Director layer as a critical growth enabler for the next 12-18 months.
  • Ensures growth is leadership-first, not solely capacity-driven, by strengthening the management layer before expanding the individual contributor population.
Core Responsibilities
Practice Operations & Delivery Governance
  • Own day-to-day operational leadership for the Learning & OCM practice.
  • Establish and maintain delivery governance processes across Learning, Training, OCM, Adoption, Readiness, and related engagements.
  • Monitor engagement health, delivery risks, escalations, staffing needs, and quality concerns.
  • Ensure consistent use of practice methodologies, templates, delivery standards, and tools.
  • Partner with the VP to define and refine the service line operating model as the practice scales.
  • Lead recurring practice reviews focused on delivery quality, utilization, staffing, financial performance, risk management, and consultant experience.
  • Create operational visibility across active and upcoming engagements to support proactive decision-making.
Resource Management, Staffing Strategy & Utilization Oversight
  • Lead resource planning for Learning & OCM consultants across client engagements.
  • Partner with Recruiting, HR, Finance, and service-line leaders to forecast staffing needs and identify current or future capacity gaps.
  • Monitor consultant utilization and support staffing decisions that balance client demand, employee development, billability, and margin expectations.
  • Support hiring plans that prioritize leadership, delivery quality, and scalable growth.
  • Maintain visibility into consultant availability, role fit, performance trends, and development needs.
  • Partner with Managers to ensure staffing decisions align with consultant capabilities, client requirements, and growth opportunities.
Manager Leadership & People Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop Managers within the Learning & OCM practice.
  • Hold Managers accountable for active people management, including coaching, performance feedback, development planning, employee engagement, and retention.
  • Ensure Managers conduct regular one-on-one meetings, provide timely feedback, support career growth, and elevate performance concerns appropriately.
  • Build a leadership pipeline by identifying emerging leaders and creating opportunities for senior consultants and managers to grow.
  • Support succession planning for Manager, Director, and senior consulting roles.
  • Partner with HR and the VP on performance management, promotion readiness, compensation input, and talent planning.
Delivery Quality, Client Satisfaction & Risk Management
  • Oversee delivery quality across Learning & OCM engagements, including readiness, stakeholder engagement, communications, training, adoption, and sustainment workstreams.
  • Establish quality control mechanisms for key deliverables, including strategic plans, readiness assessments, impact assessments, training plans, adoption dashboards, communication plans, and executive materials.
  • Review project risks, delivery issues, and consultant performance concerns with Managers and engagement leads.
  • Ensure client feedback is captured, monitored, and acted upon.
  • Support escalation management for delivery risks, consultant concerns, and client satisfaction issues.
  • Promote consistent delivery practices that improve client outcomes, consultant accountability, and service line credibility.
  • Partner with the VP on high-risk or high-visibility client relationships as needed.
Financial Performance & Practice Accountability
  • Support practice financial performance through utilization management, staffing discipline, margin awareness, and delivery efficiency.
  • Partner with the VP and Finance to monitor practice-level financial trends, engagement profitability, and staffing mix.
  • Contribute to pricing assumptions, staffing models, and scope validation for proposals and statements of work.
  • Identify opportunities to improve delivery leverage, reduce rework, increase standardization, and strengthen margins.
  • Ensure teams understand the connection between utilization, delivery quality, client satisfaction, and practice growth.
Client Delivery & Senior Consulting Leadership
  • Maintain approximately 50-60% billable utilization through senior advisory, engagement leadership, delivery oversight, or strategic client work.
  • Lead or advise on enterprise healthcare transformation initiatives involving Learning, OCM, Epic, ERP, AI adoption, operational redesign, workforce readiness, and sustainment.
  • Conduct or oversee readiness assessments, stakeholder analyses, impact assessments, training strategies, communication plans, and adoption measurement approaches.
  • Coach executives, sponsors, managers, and change champions to drive adoption and sustained behavior change.
Business Development & Growth Contribution
  • Identify opportunities for Learning & OCM growth across active clients and prospective accounts.
  • Support proposal development, solution design, RFP responses, and staffing models.
  • Partner with the VP and business development leaders to translate client needs into scalable service offerings.
  • Contribute to account expansion strategies by identifying unmet needs, delivery gaps, or adjacent opportunities.
  • Support thought leadership, conference participation, client presentations, and market-facing practice visibility.
  • Maintain appropriate opportunity tracking and communication with sales and executive stakeholders.
Internal Practice Development
  • Develop and refine Learning & OCM methodologies, frameworks, templates, playbooks, and tools.
  • Standardize delivery assets to improve consistency, quality, scalability, and onboarding efficiency.
  • Support internal capability development, consultant onboarding, knowledge sharing, and practice communications.
  • Partner with service-line leaders on integrated solutions that combine Learning, OCM, PMO, Informatics, Clinical, Revenue Cycle, AI, and other consulting capabilities.
  • Help define competency expectations for consultants, managers, and senior contributors within the Learning & OCM practice.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
