Responsibilities

As the world’s leading mission capability integrator and transformative enterprise IT provider, we deliver trusted and highly differentiated national security solutions and technologies that keep people safe and secure. Peraton serves as a valued partner to essential government agencies across the intelligence, space, cyber, defense, civilian, health, and state and local markets.

Our First Responder Solutions program is seeking an Enterprise Architect to enlarge our team responsible for supporting the California Dept of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The Enterprise Architect provides strategic technical leadership for the CAL FIRE CAD Network Consulting Engagement, defining the current-state architecture, target-state vision, and the transition roadmap required to migrate network responsibility to Peraton. This role is central to the Technology Assessment and Technical Enhancements and Infrastructure Transition phases, ensuring all architectural decisions support the reliability, security, and scalability demands of a 24/7 public safety dispatch environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the comprehensive Technology Assessment phase, documenting the existing CAL FIRE CAD network topology, infrastructure components, data flows, and integration points.
  • Develop and maintain architecture artifacts including current-state and target-state architecture diagrams, gap analyses, and transition architecture blueprints.
  • Define the technical strategy for infrastructure transition, including network segmentation, redundancy design, and failover architecture to ensure zero-downtime migration.
  • Evaluate and recommend technology enhancements (hardware, software, protocols) aligned with CAL FIRE’s operational requirements and Peraton’s managed services standards.
  • Establish architecture governance standards, design patterns, and technical baselines to guide the engineering team throughout all project phases.
  • Collaborate with CAL FIRE’s technical staff during Knowledge Transfer to document institutional knowledge and translate it into formal architecture documentation.
  • Ensure all architectural designs comply with NIST cybersecurity frameworks, CJIS Security Policy, and California state security standards.
  • Provide technical oversight during the Operations Support phase, reviewing change requests and ensuring architectural integrity is maintained.
  • Support the Project/Operations Manager with technical input for risk assessments, cost estimates, and executive briefings.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 12 years of experience.
  • Minimum 12 years of enterprise IT architecture experience, with at least 4 years focused on network infrastructure architecture for government, public safety, or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • TOGAF 9 or 10 certification required;
  • Deep expertise in LAN/WAN design, SD-WAN, MPLS, BGP/OSPF routing protocols, and network virtualization (VLANs, VRFs).
  • Experience architecting high-availability, fault-tolerant networks for mission-critical or life-safety applications.
  • Familiarity with CAD system architectures (e.g., Motorola PremierOne, Hexagon/Intergraph I/CAD, or similar) and their network dependencies.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity architecture principles, zero-trust frameworks, and network segmentation strategies.
  • Proficiency with architecture modeling tools (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart, Archi, Sparx EA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Cisco CCIE, CCNP, or equivalent network architecture certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience with cloud-hybrid network architectures and integration with state/county data centers preferred.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
