About Jamloop

Jamloop is building high-scale advertising technology that processes massive volumes of real-time traffic. Our backend systems support high-throughput, low-latency bidding infrastructure for a demand-side platform, where reliability, performance, cost efficiency, and operational excellence are critical.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our cloudops infrastructure and operations team, with a focus on cloud infrastructure, production systems, and high-volume bidder software.

About the Role

As Engineering Manager for Backend Infrastructure & Operations, you will manage a scrum team of 4 to 6 software and DevOps engineers responsible for building, operating, and improving Jamloop’s high-volume, low-latency bidder systems.

This is a hands-on management role for someone who has grown from a strong cloud operations, backend, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering background and is ready to lead a team while staying close to technical execution. The ideal candidate has experience operating production cloud systems at scale, understands how to balance reliability and cost, and can help engineers prioritize work across infrastructure, performance, incident response, and feature delivery.

You will oversee cloud infrastructure that processes over 1 billion HTTP requests per hour and represents millions of dollars in annual cloud spend. A major part of this role will be identifying opportunities to improve performance, increase reliability, and reduce infrastructure costs without compromising system quality or delivery speed.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a strong cloud operations or backend infrastructure engineer who has started leading teams and is ready to grow further as an engineering manager. They do not need to be a senior manager, but they should be comfortable managing a small team, owning delivery, handling production operational needs, and making thoughtful technical decisions in a high-scale environment.

They should enjoy both people leadership and technical problem-solving. They should be motivated by building reliable systems, improving operational processes, reducing cloud costs, and helping engineers do their best work.

Responsibilities - Team Leadership

  • Manage and support a scrum team of 4 to 6 software and DevOps engineers, while actively contributing to the code base.
  • Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, execution tracking, retrospectives, and delivery commitments.
  • Coach engineers through technical decision-making, operational ownership, prioritization, and professional growth.
  • Help create a team culture focused on accountability, reliability, continuous improvement, and pragmatic execution.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to align infrastructure and bidder team priorities with company goals.

Cloud Infrastructure & Operations

  • Oversee AWS-based cloud infrastructure supporting high-volume, low-latency bidder systems.
  • Manage cloud environments that process over 1 billion HTTP requests per hour.
  • Help operate and optimize millions of dollars of cloud infrastructure spend.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve system utilization, and increase performance.
  • Drive improvements in observability, monitoring, alerting, incident response, deployment safety, and operational readiness.
  • Ensure systems are designed and operated for scalability, reliability, availability, and maintainability.

Backend & Bidder Systems

  • Lead engineering work on high-volume bidder software for a demand-side platform.
  • Support backend systems where latency, throughput, uptime, and cost efficiency are business-critical.
  • Help the team make sound technical tradeoffs across performance, reliability, complexity, and delivery speed.
  • Collaborate with engineers on architecture, system design, code quality, deployment practices, and production operations.
  • Ensure the team maintains strong ownership of production services from design through deployment and ongoing operation.

Production Support & Incident Management

  • Participate in production support processes and help ensure appropriate team coverage.
  • Be available outside standard business hours as needed to support critical deployments, production incidents, time-sensitive operational events, and team response coverage.
  • Lead or support incident reviews, root cause analysis, follow-up planning, and long-term reliability improvements.
  • Build processes that reduce operational toil and improve team response effectiveness over time.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, site reliability engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 1+ year of experience leading engineers, managing projects, acting as a technical lead, or serving in an engineering management role.
  • Strong experience operating production systems on AWS.
  • Experience with high-scale, high-availability distributed systems.
  • Practical understanding of cloud networking, HTTP services, load balancing, service scaling, monitoring, deployment pipelines, and incident response.
  • Experience supporting systems where latency, throughput, reliability, and cost are important operational concerns.
  • Ability to manage technical priorities across infrastructure, operations, performance, and product delivery.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and business teams.
  • Comfortable staying close to technical details while also managing people, planning, execution, and delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ad tech, real-time bidding, DSPs, bidder systems, auction systems, or other high-throughput transactional platforms.
  • Experience with Golang, Rust, or other high-performance software languages
  • Experience managing or optimizing significant cloud infrastructure spend.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform), containerized workloads, CI/CD systems, observability platforms, and incident management workflows.
  • Experience improving system performance, reducing latency, or lowering cloud costs at scale.
  • Familiarity with scrum or agile engineering practices.
  • Prior experience moving from a senior engineer, DevOps engineer, SRE, or technical lead role into engineering management.

Like a great performance, this role hits a lot of notes: the responsibilities listed above, staying in tune with Jamloop policies, exercising sound judgment, collaborating effectively and inclusively, and safeguarding both our business operations and our brand integrity. We’re looking for someone who can keep the rhythm steady while improvising when the moment calls for it.

At Jamloop, we know the best tracks are made when people feel free to create wherever they’re most comfortable. That’s why we offer fully remote work options that our team loves! While you won’t be required to come into an office, you may occasionally be asked to join in-person jam sessions (a.k.a. events or team gatherings). Don’t worry, you'll have plenty of notice to set your schedule.

Jamloop is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to, and will not be discriminated against based on, age, race, gender, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, disability, or any other protected category. We also consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable law. Most importantly, we’re dedicated to providing an accessible and inclusive stage for all candidates during the hiring process, and for every employee throughout their Jamloop career.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
