The Engineer II, Software Automation is responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining scalable test automation frameworks and infrastructure for complex, distributed systems — including microservice-based software platforms, on-prem and cloud deployments, and the in-house and third-party devices they integrate with. This role is a key technical contributor within the Systems Test Engineering organization, developing automation solutions that improve test efficiency, reliability, repeatability, and coverage.

The position reports to the Sr Manager, Systems Software Test and is part of the Software Test Engineering department located in Irvine, CA and will be an on-site role.

In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To:

• Develop, execute, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks and support infrastructure for instrument and system-level testing.
• Develop reusable test libraries, device interfaces, protocol libraries, utilities, and common automation components across instrument platforms and downstream system integrations.
• Contribute to system and product test strategies with an emphasis on automation, repeatability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with development teams during product design to improve system testability, observability, interfaces, communication protocols, and diagnostic capabilities.

The Essential Requirements Of The Job Include:

• B.S. Degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, biomedical engineering, or related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in software development, test automation, software verification, or a related engineering discipline working with automated testing tools and scripting languages (Python, C#, C++, Java, or similar).

• Experience with Git, CI/CD systems, and modern software development practices.
• Familiarity with defect tracking and test management tools.
• Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile development methodologies.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Experience within the medical device or other regulated industry.
• Familiarity with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, FDA Quality System Regulation, or other applicable software quality standards.
• Familiarity with healthcare interoperability or messaging standards (e.g., HL7, WCTP) or other structured data/protocol formats.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and container/orchestration tooling (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

The annual salary range OR the hourly range for this role is $80,000 - $105,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future. 

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
