We are seeking a Senior EMI/EMC Test Engineer (Level 4) to lead complex EMI/EMC test campaigns, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with design and systems engineering to ensure our products meet demanding EMI/EMC requirements. You’ll join a friendly, team-oriented lab where engineers and technicians work closely together, share knowledge, and help each other solve challenging EMI problems.
What You’ll Get to Do
This is a senior-level position for an experienced EMI/EMC test engineer with strong technical depth and a passion for teamwork. The selected candidate will:
- Lead the planning, setup, and execution of EMI/EMC testing for complex electronic systems and subsystems in accordance with company and customer requirements.
- Define test strategies, select appropriate methods (e.g., CE/RE/CS/RS per MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑464, and DO‑160), and oversee execution in EMI chambers, shielded rooms, and bench test environments.
- Confidently operate and guide others in the use of oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF preamplifiers, LISNs, transient generators, antennas, and other EMI test equipment needed for test campaigns.
- Lead data analysis, identify and document non‑compliances, and drive root‑cause analysis and troubleshooting of EMI/EMC issues in partnership with design, systems, and integration teams.
- Recommend and help validate design and mitigation changes (filters, shielding, grounding, cable routing, layout adjustments) to achieve EMI/EMC compliance.
- Develop, review, and approve EMI/EMC test procedures, test configurations, and formal test reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and configuration control.
- Coordinate test readiness reviews, lab readiness activities, and interactions with internal and external test facilities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians, promoting best practices in EMI testing, lab safety, and effective teamwork.
- Communicate clearly in cross‑functional team meetings, presenting test status, risks, and recommended actions to stakeholders.
- Demonstrate a positive, professional attitude and flexibility to support extended work weeks and weekend test campaigns when required to meet critical program milestones.
Basic Qualifications T4 Senior EMI/EMC Test Engineer
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline and 9+ years of relevant experience; or
Master’s degree with 7+ years of experience. - U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance (or higher) is required, with ability to obtain program-specific access if needed.
- Significant hands-on experience planning and executing EMI/EMC testing for complex electronic systems or subsystems.
- Strong working knowledge of MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑464, and/or DO‑160, including test method selection, setup, and interpretation of results.
- Demonstrated expertise operating and configuring oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF preamps, LISNs, transient generators, and related EMI test equipment.
- Proven ability to lead troubleshooting and resolution of EMI/EMC test failures, including recommending and validating design or mitigation strategies.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or technicians in EMI/EMC test methods, lab processes, and teamwork.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to support extended work weeks and weekend testing to meet program objectives.
- Ability to work onsite full-time in Woodland Hills, CA.
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related STEM discipline.
- Extensive experience with system-level and subsystem-level EMI/EMC testing in defense or aerospace applications.
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC test facility operations, including chamber characterization, calibration, and test automation.
- Experience with RF and high-speed digital systems, including grounding, shielding, and cable management best practices.
- Experience with data acquisition and automation tools (e.g., LabVIEW, Python) to streamline test execution and data processing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including preparation and presentation of test plans, technical reviews, and customer-facing results.

This position’s standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Primary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
