Afar is seeking an Email Marketing Manager to lead our email newsletter efforts with a focus on newsletter production and lifecycle optimization. This position reports to the Editorial Director, Newsletters. Job Responsibilities
- NEWSLETTER PRODUCTION (30% of the role):
- Build and deploy both editorial and marketing sends on a daily basis, ensuring all necessary assets are in hand before deployment date.
- Oversee accuracy, consistency, and efficiency in all newsletter deployments.
- Plan and manage A/B testing with a goal of continuous improvement.
- Participate in regular brainstorming sessions to optimize campaign performance and newsletter templates.
- Manage all of AFAR’s newsletter lists and segments, balancing the needs of the reader and the business.
- Develop, manage and analyze ongoing reporting to provide actionable insights and intel.
- ACQUISITION and RETENTION (70% of the role):
- Manage and optimize growth acquisition efforts such as sweepstakes, on-site sign ups, cross-promotions, referral rewards programs, and partnerships.
- Provide insights and execute against onboarding, winback, and retention series to identify optimization opportunities.
- Execute initiatives that drive loyalty and engagement. This might include personalization, trigger emails or drip campaigns.
- Develop clear reporting in order to monitor, analyze, and present key performance metrics (e.g., open rates, CTR, deliverability).
- Ensure email list and deliverability health by employing best practices for list hygiene and segmentation.
- Stay on top of industry trends in email, media, and audience behavior to inform innovation.
Requirements
- 3+ years of proven email marketing experience in lifecycle management and automation; preferably in media.
- Technical proficiency with SaaS tools, email platforms, Canva, and automation workflows (e.g., Marigold Sailthru, Asana).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Adaptable, accountable, and collaborative with a history of successfully owning processes from concept to execution.
- Experience with Parse.ly, Google Analytics and affiliate a plus.
- A team player who finds satisfaction in both contributing ideas and doing the work to make them happen.
- Organized and have a strong attention to detail.
