As an Avionics Engineer at Reflect, you will design, build, and test electronic subsystems for spacecraft, focusing on system design and qualification testing.
The summary above was generated by AI

At Reflect, you will be expected to move fast, have a lot of ownership and, most importantly, be able to effect change. If this excites you, we are interested in hearing about your best work and accomplishments across any domain and from any points in your life.

About the Role

As an Avionics Engineer, you will have zero to one design ownership of electronic subsystems on our first spacecraft. You will be responsible for designing, building, testing and improving reliable space-ready components. The ideal candidate will have strong experience working on spacecraft.

Responsibilities
  • Own avionics system-level design & interfaces and make system-level trades

  • Prototype, design, bring up and validate flight computers, communication systems, and electronics for power systems and ADCS

  • Establish best practices and tooling for electrical engineering design

  • Develop in-house avionics test infrastructure – flatsat, GPS sim, power sim, comms sim, etc.

  • Design and execute avionics qualification testing for vibration, shock, thermal and thermal vacuum environments and own your hardware into flight operation

Ideal Qualifications
  • You’ve designed and validated PCBAs for the space environment or similar high performance environments/vehicles

  • You’ve owned multiple high-reliability electronics subsystems from concept to deployment

  • You can succeed with a high level of autonomy

  • You’ve iterated on requirements and architecture to achieve an optimal design in a highly constrained trade space

  • You have experience hacking and crawling through electronics systems to troubleshoot issues

Even if you don’t meet 100% of the above qualifications, we are likely still interested in hearing from you. Hiring exceptional individuals is our #1 priority, and we believe that exceptional people often have highly unusual backgrounds.

We are also interested in carving out unique roles for unconventional people that we are excited about working with.

Benefits

Reflect Orbital’s success will hinge on our team, which is why our compensation and benefits plan is designed to reward our employees and support their families as generously as we’re able.

  • Broad choice of medical/dental/vision coverage, Reflect covers 100% of each base-policy

  • Access to HSA, FSA, and 401K

  • Unlimited paid time off, two-weeks per year encouraged

  • Healthy lunches provided daily

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
