About the company

Our client is an aerospace and technology company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Join a small engineering group as its first dedicated electrical engineer, taking ownership of an onboard computer for an upcoming flight program. You will also contribute to the electronics design for a later, larger system, splitting your time between the lab bench and collaboration with outside manufacturing partners.

What you'll do

- Own the design of the onboard flight computer, with delivery in the first 90 days as the top priority.

- Prototype on the bench, bring up new boards and troubleshoot problems in the lab alongside engineering leadership.

- Collaborate with external manufacturers on the electronics and compute hardware for a larger production system.

- Help guide decisions about high-speed data links between processors and evaluate optical alternatives.

- Develop low-level code and supporting software for the payload as the need arises.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Solid grounding in high-speed digital design, including signal and power integrity.

- Hands-on experience taking custom boards or system boards from schematic capture through high-speed layout, bring-up and debugging.

- At least 1 year at a high-growth startup, with exposure to building things from zero.

- A degree in electrical or computer engineering, or comparable practical experience.

- Ability to work on-site five days a week in Los Angeles, CA.

- Open to any level, from a promising new graduate to a veteran with 10+ years of experience.

Bonus points

- Prior work at the silicon level on processors, accelerators or large custom chips.

- A track record of working closely with outside electronics manufacturers.

- Familiarity with optical networking or related data-communication technologies.

- Background at well-known aerospace, semiconductor or hardware companies.

- Exposure to hardware built for harsh environments such as spaceflight.

Benefits

Compensation and benefits

- Base salary: USD 120,000 to 220,000 per year

- Equity

- Health, dental and vision coverage

- Flexible time off

- Relocation support

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
